Pledge to Stop Saying "climate change"

I hereby pledge to stop using the term “climate change.” Instead, I will use escalating global warming, irreversible global warming or climate destabilization to describe the increase in the Earth’s average temperature and the destruction caused by global warming primarily due to our burning of fossil fuels.

    take-the-pledge-aqua.png

    I make this pledge because:

    • “Climate change” is a misleading term employed by the fossil fuel industry and its advocates to lull the media and the public into a false sense of security. This propaganda is intended to make global warming-caused climate destabilization seem more benign and non-threatening. It suggests the Earth’s climate is always in a natural state of change, rather than global warming’s direct causation being from human activity-related carbon and methane pollution.

    • The idea of “natural” climate change diminishes the real seriousness of global warming and does not directly implicate our increasing use of fossil fuels, and the resultant carbon and methane pollution, as the primary cause.

    • Rising global temperatures are the most serious currently active challenge facing humanity, comparable in scope of impact to global nuclear war, if such were to occur.

I pledge that I will contest fossil fuels corporations and climate deniers misframing and falsely defining the real dangers of global warming! We are facing an imminent global threat that is already causing devastating losses due to drought, sea level rise, air pollution and increasingly severe weather.

I choose to stop using the term “climate change.” By my action, I now bring more urgency and clarity to climate discussions by speaking the scientifically proven truth that our Earth is experiencing escalating global warming, leading to irreversible global warming and  climate destabilization caused by human actions.

  • Sign the Petition to Declare a Formal Global Warming State of Emergency

We, the citizens of our nation and of our Earth, are endowed with certain rights, powers, and obligations, which demand we act both individually and collectively to protect and preserve the ongoing evolution of life on Earth, including our future generations.

Based upon a preponderance of scientific evidence we recognize our global climate is rapidly warming and becoming increasingly unstable due to human-caused carbon pollution from the burning of fossil fuels.

If we do not change course before more critical global warming tipping points are crossed, this destabilization of our climate will continue to cause ever-increasing suffering and unthinkable devastation within both current and future generations. If left unresolved any longer, it will eventually cause the complete extinction or near extinction of the human species and much of our other biological life in as little as the next 30-50 years.

We further recognize that because of numerous climatic and human factors, for all intents and purposes global warming has become out of our meaningful control for at least the next 50 years and, the consequent additional consequences occurring over this additional 50 year time period is now the greatest threat to the security of all nations, comparable in scope to the impact to global nuclear war.

We face a world in which escalating average global temperature rises will lead to a massive destabilization of normal life affecting first millions, then billions of people forced to deal with ongoing climate catastrophes, severe food shortages and other resource depletion, and mass migrations. (If necessary, see this page which proves the statements of this paragraph are factual.)

Nearly all of the other existing major problems our world faces today will also worsen due to the threat multiplier and accelerating disruptor consequences of escalating global warming.

All of the ecological, economic and political problems (listed below) will also cross-react with each other and greatly magnify those problems in frequency, severity, and size as average global temperatures continue to rise.

    • Food and resource depletion (Overshoot.)
    • Severe droughts, floods, and wildfires
    • Rising sea levels
    • Water pollution and water table loss
    • Desertification and deforestation
    • Ocean fish stock depletion (Overshoot.)
    • Growing economic inequity, poverty, and instability
    • Political instability and injustice
    • War and regional conflicts
    • Increasing potential of pandemics and other health crises

Despite 30 + years of education, study, and discussion about the possible extinction level effects of human-caused carbon and methane pollution of our atmosphere, global warming temperatures have escalated to levels that have already passed some tipping points and are close to passing other even more critical global warming tipping points with many impacts that have now become irreversible for centuries to thousands of years.

In order to honestly deal with the global warming emergency at hand, we must immediately stop the continued rise of average global temperature. This can only be done by radically and immediately decreasing the human-caused production of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels.

Failure to resolve global warming for ourselves and future generations is no longer a survivable option.

As global citizens of every nation on Earth, we ask you, our national leaders to:

    a. first initiate the necessary steps to formally declare a national and international global warming State of Emergency. And then at this same emergency meeting,

    b. call for the immediate allocation of all of the resources, personnel, and actions necessary (like those described in Part 3 of the Job One for Humanity Plan,) to quickly resolve this State of Emergency to sustainably protect, preserve, and advance the continued evolution of humanity and life on Earth.

By signing this petition now (in the box below,) I am notifying my national politicians of my demand for their immediate gathering in a needing and immediate action on this matter.

I also pledge to act together with others as one human family to acknowledge and help resolve our escalating global warming emergency.

Shift_logo.jpgProbably the most intractable and urgent crisis to the future of spiritual practice is the escalating threat of global warming. We must first recognize, accept, and then act on this state of emergency level threat to humanity. Please now join with the Shift Network, and Job One for Humanity to sign the Petition to Declare a Global Warming State of Emergency.
