Yesterday's 50^th anniversary of Earth Day is unique — our world is being turned upside-down and inside-out by the coronavirus. Is Mother Earth sending us a message?

To commemorate the 50^th anniversary of Earth Day — a celebration that piqued my interest and deep participation for many years — I would like to honour three of my Earth Day heroes. These are individuals who have spent their lives in outstanding service to the Earth.

Could Nature be warning us through the COVID-19 global pandemic and the ever-escalating global warming emergency to "repent" our over-consuming, over-polluting, and unsustainable lifestyles and livelihoods before we experience a Great Collapse?

Lost in the Covid-19 pandemic news coverage is the current rapidly deteriorating state of the climate, which is more of an emergency than ever. This global threat to our survival is more real than ever. It will not go away by itself, we cannot make it go away, and our leaders, particularly the US Republican Trump government, are denying the threat. They are pouring more gasoline on the global warming fire.  

Why didn’t every American newspaper report this news? It should have made the front-page headlines. This is an enormous American and global — now unavoidable — climate catastrophe in the making.

In April 2020, the journal Science published “Large contribution from anthropogenic warming to an emerging North American megadrought” (by A. Park Williams and colleagues). 

As usual for momentously bad research news on climate disruption, although it was reported, it would not have seen by the average reader as it did not feature under general science news.

At this very late stage of needed fossil fuel reductions, only government-enforced actions to reduce global fossil fuel use to the required 2025 global target levels can save us from a soon-arriving global warming-caused extinction nightmare. 

COVID-19 is giving the world a sobering preview of the pandemics global warming will cause as it exposes us to new, old, and even prehistoric diseases that will be far worse.

An “Ambition Alliance” — that’s what 120 nations announced at the December 2019 UN COP25, repeating their intention to “upscale” their emissions action by 2020. It hasn’t happened.

Most people by now will have heard that the Covid-19 pandemic is a frightening global emergency demanding immediate drastic government action and public behaviour changes, even though the measures are collapsing the world economy — and that’s because the growth of the virus infections is exponential. (See, for example, from Forbes on 17 March 2020: “Why 'Exponential Growth' Is So Scary For The COVID-19 Coronavirus.”)

The COVID-19 global pandemic previews an even larger and soon following social and economic disaster.

It was announced on April 1^st, but it is no April’s Fools joke. There will be no UN COP26 in 2020. Nor is the Covid-19 virus playing tricks on the world. It was inevitable. Due to the virus pandemic, the United Nations 26^th Conference of the Parties to the climate change convention has been postponed to next year.

Something has to be done fast, so that as one national community, we are ALL sharing the pain and sacrifice of this Covid19 global pandemic fairly.

You be the judge on why our governments are not talking to us seriously enough about how climate change and global warming are both creating and exacerbating pandemics?

Quite by chance, the scientific Journal of Clinical Investigation on 6 January 2020 published an update on the concern that global surface heating could see the emergence of new infectious diseases, as well as an increase in the prevalence of long known killer diseases. The title of the paper was “Climate change brings the specter of new infectious diseases.”

SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus or Covid-19) is a new infectious disease that has become a global pandemic.

This adds to the overwhelming evidence and the recommendations of climate scientists that we must put global greenhouse gas—especially carbon—emissions into decline on an immediate basis. One irony of the pandemic is that while governments and corporations only plan to keep emissions increasing, the new virus will most likely put them into decline this year. However, when the pandemic is over, those world powers will boost the fossil-fueled economy and global emissions more than ever. It’s an insanely evil plan for unprecedented suffering of humanity—and global suicide.

The brightest minds at Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, and the world's intelligence agencies and universities are being called out to 

a unique, new eco-community being built on a large island with a hot spring in a global warming safer zone. 

The global warming emergency is much, much worse than we are being told by our governments and by the world's media.
