The Republican Party platform

On 22 August 2020, the Republican Party passed a firm resolution to stick with the party’s 2016 platform without any change, saying it “will continue to enthusiastically support the President’s America-first agenda” (or, more accurately, his “America-second agenda” as his first agenda always seems to be Donald Trump).

This will continue the Trump / GOP-driven descent towards American fascism.

On climate change, it will continue to “unleash $50 trillion in untapped shale oil, and natural gas reserves, plus hundreds of years in clean [sic] coal reserves.”

Global warming is accelerating. The following survival-critical deadlines should be kept in mind.

As reported by The Guardian in June, the International Energy Agency (IEA) gives the world only six months in which to change the course of the carbon climate emergency and “prevent a post-lockdown rebound in greenhouse gas emissions that would overwhelm efforts to stave off climate catastrophe.”

As the Arctic goes, so goes the planet. On 23 June 2020, a new record high  temperature was recorded in the Siberian Arctic. The northern Russian town of Verkhoyansk hit a stunning 38°C (100.4°F), which is 18°C (32.6°F) higher than normal. Climate experts were shocked, as this Arctic heating was not predicted by models to occur until the end of this century.
