President Biden of the United States has acted on planet-wrecking fossil fuel subsidies, with an executive order directing federal agencies to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies as consistent with applicable law, and he will bring up this crime of all time with the US Congress.

On day one of his administration, President Biden issued what could possibly be the world’s strongest overall policy on climate change (though still not enough to prevent climate catastrophe). In particular, this applies to the section: Accounting for the Benefits of Reducing Climate Pollution. (No one else is calling it "climate pollution.")

Like many millions of people (around the world), I have been watching the all-time record cliffhanger historic US election.

There are many amazing things about this election. 

More important than ever before, everyone must get out to vote in this US election. But the Covid-19 virus threatened the election — and US democracy.

So, CAN the United States be a force for good when it comes to protecting Mother Earth? It depends on the environmental promises of each of the Parties, but also on the integrity of the US democratic system.

Still being reported as great climate news, on September 22, 2020 at the United Nations, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that his country “would aim to become carbon neutral, in the battle against climate change, by 2060.”

Many Americans may not know it, but the biggest issue in the US election is global climate change. That's because it will hurt the lives of all Americans (with many already affected) and leave the legacy of a disastrous country for their children. And that’s because atmospheric CO2 (the amount of carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere) from burning fossil fuels is at a 23-million-year high and accelerating — increasing at a faster and faster rate. While the Republican Trump administration has opened up America for more fracking, neither presidential candidate has a plan to stop burning fossil fuels.

In this blog post, I suggest that the wealthy countries of the Global North have been deluded into thinking they are not very vulnerable to climate change.

Today, the 21^st of September, is the United Nations International Day of Peace, a day devoted to non-violence, cease-fire, and making the ideals of peace robust.

What has world peace to do with global climate change? A helluva lot. Rapid global reduction of CO2 emissions requires world disarmament, a fact never mentioned in climate negotiations.

September 2020 has given us a glimpse of the future for the American West, and it is a bleak hell of catastrophic heat, drought and fire.

Great news: We can replace all today’s fossil fuel energy with zero-combustion renewable energy in 5 years. But the bad news is, our governments are sabotaging that transformation.

The Republican Party platform

On 22 August 2020, the Republican Party passed a firm resolution to stick with the party’s 2016 platform without any change, saying it “will continue to enthusiastically support the President’s America-first agenda” (or, more accurately, his “America-second agenda” as his first agenda always seems to be Donald Trump).

This will continue the Trump / GOP-driven descent towards American fascism.

On climate change, it will continue to “unleash $50 trillion in untapped shale oil, and natural gas reserves, plus hundreds of years in clean [sic] coal reserves.”
