Sign the Petition to Declare a Formal Global Warming State of Emergency

We, the citizens of our nation and of our Earth, are endowed with certain rights, powers, and obligations, which demand we act both individually and collectively to protect and preserve the ongoing evolution of life on Earth, including our future generations.

Based upon a preponderance of scientific evidence we recognize our global climate is rapidly warming and becoming increasingly unstable due to human-caused carbon pollution from the burning of fossil fuels. If we do not change course before global warming tipping points are crossed, this destabilization of our climate will continue to cause ever-increasing suffering and irreversible devastation for both current and future generations. If left unresolved, it could cause the extinction, or near extinction, of the human species.

We further recognize that because of numerous technical and human factors, for all intents and purposes global warming (aka climate change,) has become irreversible for at least the next 50 years and the consequent additional consequences occurring over this additional 50 year time period is the greatest currently active threat to the security of all nations, comparable in scope of impact to global nuclear war. Escalating average global temperature rises will lead to a massive destabilization of normal life affecting first millions, then billions of people forced to deal with ongoing climate catastrophes, severe food and other resource depletion, and mass climate migrations. (See this page which proves the statements of this paragraph are factual.)

Nearly all of the other major problems our world faces today will also worsen due to the threat multiplier and great disruptor effects of escalating global warming.

All of the ecological, economic and political problems (listed just below) will cross over into each other and greatly magnify those problems as average global temperatures continues to rise.

  • Food and resource depletion
  • Severe droughts, floods, and wildfires
  • Rising sea levels
  • Water pollution and water table loss
  • Desertification and deforestation
  • Ocean fish stock depletion
  • Growing economic inequity, poverty, and instability
  • Political instability and injustice
  • War and regional conflicts
  • Increasing potential of pandemics and other health crises

Despite 30 + years of education, study, and discussion about the possible irreversible effects of human-caused carbon and methane pollution of our atmosphere, global warming temperatures have escalated to levels that may have already passed or be close to passing global warming tipping points with impacts that are now irreversible for centuries to thousands of years.

We must immediately stop the continued rise of average global temperature by decreasing the human-caused production of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels.

Failure to resolve global warming for ourselves and future generations is simply not a survivable option.

As global citizens of every nation on Earth, we ask you, our national leaders, to first initiate the necessary steps to formally declare a national and international global warming State of Emergency. And then at this emergency meeting, call for the immediate allocation of all of the resources, personnel, and actions necessary (like those described in the Job One for Humanity Plan,) to quickly resolve this State of Emergency to sustainably protect, preserve, and advance the continued evolution of humanity and life on Earth.

By signing this petition now (in the box below,) I am notifying my national politicians of my demand for their action on this matter and, I am also pledging to act together with others as one human family to acknowledge and resolve the escalating global warming emergency.

I thank everyone who is working on this petition and those who sing. Climate change is a very painful subject to me, i hope that we can make worlwide changes before this tragedy sings humanity’s death certificate.

Will I make it to my forties? Probably not, at the rate we a going. I want to bring forth a life that can actually be lived. The impending threat of this catastrophe is truly terrifying.

All warning messages I have read are not describing the full extent of the catastrophe that is surely coming. A collapse of civilization appears to be a decade or two away, and virtually all of humanity is not preparing for this, and it is not clear to me what that preparation could be. Drastic population control is likely our only hope, and the sooner this is openly discussed the more likely it is that such control could be humane. The longer we avoid this discussion the more likely it is that the population control will be totally disorganized and catastrophic. Perhaps it has been examined and there is nothing that could be done to avoid this. If so, this information should be shared. The other alternative is that there is a plan to dramatically reduce the world population, in which case I would advise the planners to implement ASAP, as there is no time to waste.

The other side of fully and publicly describing the likely future we face if global climate change is not defeated (i.e. the human ecological and carbon footprint is not dramatically reduced very quickly), public support for immediate and drastic control of green house gasses could be mobilized and the implementation of the actions required. Examples might include a worldwide carbon tax, strict birth control of maximum 1 child per female, etc.

It just occurred to me that leaders of all nations should be called upon to jointly declare a worldwide state of climate emergency & when I looked online I discovered this group.

All the leaders should agree to cooperation to enable the shutting down of coal-fired power stations, a switch away from heavy oil for maritime transport, introduction of massive tree-planting & wild land regeneration schemes, etc.

That would be just the beginning & could well be too little too late.

In the ‘developed’ world we are also entering a crisis of acute civil anxiety & we are for the most part culturally unprepared for life without the complex infrastructures of modern urban society. But these infrastructures depend on massive consumption of natural resources & must inevitably fail. We will the have to learn to live with much less security & material wealth.

Last thing… what this brief period of human madness has set in train has just begun. The oceans will continue to warm for centuries, the ice will continue to melt, the corals to die. My granddaughter is 3 years old. If she’s around in 2084 she’ll be my age now. By then no choice anybody makes will be able to improve the situation.

    We have a chance now.

    Now.

    Best wishes.
