Sign the Petition to Declare a Formal Global Warming State of Emergency

We, the citizens of our nation and of our Earth, are endowed with certain rights, powers, and obligations, which demand we act both individually and collectively to protect and preserve the ongoing evolution of life on Earth, including our future generations.

Based upon a preponderance of scientific evidence we recognize our global climate is rapidly warming and becoming increasingly unstable due to human-caused carbon pollution from the burning of fossil fuels. If we do not change course before global warming tipping points are crossed, this destabilization of our climate  will continue to cause ever-increasing suffering and potentially irreversible devastation for both current and future generations. If left unresolved, it could cause the extinction, or near extinction, of the human species.

We further recognize that rapidly escalating global warming and its consequent climate destabilization is the greatest currently active threat to the security of all nations, comparable in scope of impact to global nuclear war. Escalating average global temperature rises will lead to destabilization affecting first millions, then billions of people forced to deal with ongoing climate catastrophes, food and other resource depletion, and mass migrations.

Nearly all of the major problems our world faces today worsen and multiply due to escalating global warming. All of the ecological, economic and political problems listed below will cross-intensify and therefore worsen as average global temperatures rises.

  • Food and resource depletion
  • Severe droughts, floods, and wildfires
  • Rising sea levels
  • Water pollution and water table loss
  • Desertification and deforestation
  • Ocean fish stock depletions
  • Growing economic inequity, poverty, and instability
  • Political instability and injustice
  • War and regional conflicts
  • Increasing potential of pandemics and other health crises

Despite 30 years of education, study, and discussion about the possible irreversible effects of human-caused carbon and methane pollution of our atmosphere, global warming temperatures have escalated to levels that may have already passed or be close to passing global warming tipping points with impacts that are irreversible. We must immediately reverse the continued rise of average global temperature by decreasing human-caused production of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels.

Failure to resolve global warming for ourselves and future generations is simply not a survivable option.

As global citizens of every nation on Earth, we ask you, our national leaders, to initiate the necessary steps to formally declare a national and international global warming State of Emergency, calling for the immediate allocation of the needed research, resources, personnel, and interventions to quickly resolve this State of Emergency and sustainably protect, preserve, and advance the continued evolution of humanity and life on Earth.

By signing this petition now, I pledge to act together with others as one human family to acknowledge and resolve the escalating global warming-caused climate destabilization crisis.

Listen to qualified scientist about the issue of global warming and climate change, do not ignore them, and their warnings.

Who or what caused climate change doesn’t matter anymore, only that reduction of fossil fuels can make a difference, and that the world is suffering the consequences through extreme weather episodes of increased flooding, tornadoes/hurricanes, temperatures cold and hot, stagnation of ocean currents that threaten all of us with dying oceans that feed most of our people on earth. Where is the leadership to ready our people nationally and universally to move themselves and families when Florida and New York and the rest of the south, are under water or destroyed. This is NOW. New Orleans got by twice but probably not the next time. Mankind can’t “trump” nature and denial doesn’t help those that have lost family, homes, food, water and protection. We need ideas and leadership now to be ready to move masses of people to housing/food/clean water/jobs to maintain our personal and national welfare. We need people “in-the-know” with our government to provide support that can come up with viable ideas for masses of displaced people. We need to move our energy infrastructure into true renewables (not corn that should be used for food) to replace fossil and nuclear fuels – both of which have caused excessive pollution world-wide and there is no proven method to make them safe. We have the capability but are being pushed back to the 1900’s energy deficit that probably caused this to happen. Now we need to change our ways to a cleaner living standard that invites life and health and security to handle the upcoming climate problems. I’m attempting to do what I can now by reducing my driving (tho we have no public transportation here), by eating organic when possible because pesticides slowly kill people while killing pests quickly, by maintaining native animal & plant communities in my yard, and recycling as much as allowed while rejecting new packaging when I can reuse through salvage or thrift stores. I hope our scientists can pull together and pressure with “best knowledge” to turn our government into a structure that supports “We the People” of the United States and World.

The Congress (or we citizens) must declare a state of emergency, and rationing of fossil fuels must begin. Rationing worked in WWII. We did not complain – we did it for the cause, namely, to

defeat Hitler and fascism. Americans were united. Now, thanks to sound scientific data, we can see into the future and predict our demise due to global warming. We who are living at this time hold the future of life on earth in our hands. Let’s unite once again, access our survival instincts, and do whatever has to be done to halt the march toward catastrophe. Let’s go!

As those who signed the petition know, it’s this simple. We are producing too much CO2 that our plant life cannot convert back into oxygen.

Per Stephen Hawking: “A more immediate danger is runaway climate change. A rise in ocean temperature would melt the ice-caps, and cause a release of large amounts of carbon dioxide from the ocean floor. Both effects could make our climate like that of Venus, with a temperature of 250 degrees.”
