Peter Carter:

Peter was an expert reviewer for the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) fifth climate change assessment (AR5, 2014) and the IPCC’s 2018 Special Report on 1.5ºC. In 2018, he published Unprecedented Crime: Climate Science Denial and Game Changers for Survival, which he co-authored with Elizabeth Woodworth. He is published on climate change, biodiversity, and environmental health.

Peter has been synthesizing global warming and climate change research since 1988. His approach to assessing climate change is based on environmental health and human rights protection. Peter’s mission now is to spread the full truth about the extreme risks and magnitude of the global climate and ocean disruption emergency and the emergency response required.

Peter was a founding director of CAPE (Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment) and, more recently, founder of the Climate Emergency Institute. Peter Carter, M.D. currently is a retired family and emergency medicine physician, with a background in environmental health protection policy.

Alvin (Al) Urquhart: 

Alvin is an Emeritus Professor of Geography and was a founder and director of the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Oregon. With three degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, he was trained in anthropology, soil science, ecology, and geomorphology, as well as in his home department, geography. 

Although his early teaching specialism was as a geomorphologist, after field studies in Jamaica, Angola, and Nigeria, he became focused on the alteration of landscapes by cultural groups. Since the early 1970s, his primary interests have been the relations between humans and the natural world.

As a teacher, he developed courses in the ways in which cultural landscapes were created, the disruption of ecological systems in the building of these landscapes, and the history of environmental ideas. Many of his thoughts were published in Nature & Culture: A Personal Crisis,  Eco-Justice Press; Eugene; 2013; 201 pp.  It contains the ideas underlying his thinking process, an extensive autobiography, and thoughts on the predicament in which humanity now finds itself. Many of the presentations he has made appear in his environmental blog: alurquhart.com. Now in his tenth decade, Al continues his landscape and environmental interest, mainly on a local scale.

Wilford H. Welch: 

For the past two decades, Wilford has devoted his considerable energies to the impacts the global sustainability, global warming, and global climate change crises are having on the peoples of this earth and the earth itself – and what we all must do to be part of the solution, not the problem. 

He is the author of the 2021 book In Our Hands – A Handbook for Intergenerational Actions to Solve the Climate Crisis. The book is the primary text, and he is the lead teacher in two courses that he co-created with and now teaches at the Presidio Graduate School. Following degrees at Yale, Harvard, and the University of California at Berkeley, Wilford was a U.S. diplomat in Asia during the Johnson and Nixon administrations. For many years thereafter he was an international business consultant at Arthur D. Little International based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
