Most people are not prepared for how our intensifying runaway global heating consequences will devolve our political systems to more primitive forms.

As the many climate consequences and the climate emergency continues to worsen, almost all worldwide governments will eventually have to declare martial law. The human rights many of us take for granted will have to be severely restricted because of what the swift action of the accelerating climate emergency will demand and require. Our democracies will eventually have to declare martial law and become more autocratic (dictatorial) because their population will be so stressed out and in fear as more climate consequences shatter and scatter their lives.

This regression has happened many times before in history. Fearful people (as in pre-Nazi Germany) will accept and even demand dictatorial strong-man leaders, solutions, and behaviors they would never accept under normal -non-emergency living conditions.

This de-evolution can occur because the core and most basic nature of progressive democracy requires:

a. abundant and adequate resources for a large portion of their population and, 

b. a high degree of economic, social, and political stability for democracy even to exist. 

Under the continuing stresses from escalating climate consequences, democracies will rapidly be forced to de-evolve into authoritarian nations. This is because as global warming consequences worsen, critical resources will dwindle, and you will not have anything like previous normal social, economic, or political stability. 

The constantly worsening climate disasters, mass migrations, and many other climate consequences will also intensify or cause new regional, national, and international conflicts. These conflicts will further destroy anything that looks like current normal democratic stability. Because of escalating climate consequences, many current non-democratic states may de-evolve even further into warring clans or gangs. 

How can we expect democracies not to de-evolve into authoritarian nations? When survival is at stake in an emergency, drastic immediate action must be taken. We must sacrifice our individual rights and freedoms for the practicalities needed for the survival of the collective. 

You can reliably trust that our global democracies, just like existing dictatorships and authoritarian governments, will also take any and all of the extreme measures needed to preserve their power and do whatever is necessary to maintain national law and order in the coming climate chaos. 

A terrifying part of this climate de-evolution is that existing right-wing nationalist and conservative political movements (as well as existing dictatorships) may intentionally ignore fixing the climate emergency for as long as possible. They will ignore fixing the climate to help create the deteriorating conditions within the nation that will eventually propel their rise to more power and influence. 

Eventually, a fearful population will call upon and demand almost anyone they believe to be a leader for their particular brand of simplistic, quick solutions to the climate emergency. Those people will then willingly surrender their human rights and freedoms in the hope that these new leaders and regulations can make them feel safe again. 

The harsh reality of the climate emergency-driven de-evolution of the world's democracies means that to maintain the world's democracies, we must find a way to resolve the runaway global warming extinction emergency before it requires martial law. And, we must do it before it creates more authoritarian dictatorships where centuries of hard-won human rights and freedoms will be lost. 

So, if you do not want to eventually live in a police state under emergency draconian martial law, get busy fixing our current runaway global heating extinction emergency. As more authoritarian governments are created from the necessities of climate destabilization, it is doubtful these new authoritarian governments will ever be able to affect the minimal international cooperation required to prevent humanity's near-total extinction from our many runaway global heating consequences. Additional Breaking Critical Climate News for 8.12.2022

Recently we had the shocking Thwaites "doomsday glacier" collapse timeframe underestimation issue. Yesterday, a new study from Finland warned the world that previous climate computer models which predicted that temperatures would only rise in the Arctic by double are dead wrong. Instead, the new study states that Arctic temperatures have risen four times higher than predicted compared to rising sub-arctic temperatures.

This is terrible climate news because it means: 

1. Our existing climate computer models for predicting future climate consequences and timeframes must be redone immediately.

2. Weather around the world will become much more unpredictable, unseasonable, and extreme because the Artic directly and indirectly controls or affects the weather for much of the world.

3. There will be considerably more crop failures and lower crop yields than predicted because of the Artic-influenced extreme and unseasonable weather.

4. More starvation and soaring food prices will result from more crop failures and low crop yields.

For years, we have told our readers that current computer model consequence and timeline projections are underestimated by at least 20-40%. Still, this four times what they thought level of Artic global warming underestimation shocked even us. 

Unfortunately, it also will significantly accelerate many of the other climate consequences found on this page.
