Unfortunately, many other corporations are joining Amazon pledging to be net carbon zero across their businesses by 2040. Here is why that is such a deadly, dangerous, and disastrous twisted joke!
There are three good starting reasons for why these embarrassing pledges are terrible news for all of us:
1. These huge corporations are using these phony fossil fuel reduction pledges to hide, distract and misdirect the public away from their absolutely massive current fossil fuel burning and use!
2. If we do not make the correct 2025 global fossil fuel reductions, much of humanity will be dead by mid-century. Unfortunately, these bogus targets distract us from that critical fact and urgency.
3. Worse yet, if we do not come close to the 2025 reductions, we could be facing a total human extinction beginning as soon as 2070 or sooner. (We have provided reference documentation below to support these disruptive claims at the end of this article.)
Microsoft, Uber, Procter & Gamble, Visa, Heineken, Verizon, PepsiCo, Unilever, Twitter, Salesforce, Amazon, and others are monster corporations with lots of intelligent people who should have done the correct and current climate research. If they had, they would have known that net-zero emissions by 2040 is "far too little far too late!"
What is most dangerous about these phony corporate climate pledges is that they hide the real global warming danger and urgency from society by making society think that the problem is being solved correctly or we are making the correct progress on solving it --- when both are incorrect!
(See the atmospheric carbon (CO2) graph below, which shows the no global warming progress reality our corporations and governments are hiding. Much of this increasing atmospheric carbon below is from fossil fuel burning.)
To help the pre-named corporations correct this embarrassing global screw-up, below is the research and analysis they need to review to see if they can get their ridiculous, under-achieving climate pledges correct the second time! If these major corporations, with all their cash and talent, can't get this right, how can we expect other smaller corporations or governments ever to get it right?
However, what is good for these corporations (the ridiculously low climate pledges) IS very bad for the rest of the world. These new climate pledges are beyond unconscionable for preserving the life spans and quality of life for generations X, Y, and Z!
For more on corporate climate dirty tricks, please also see this new Guardian article called, Apple and Disney among companies backing groups against US climate bill.
This grossly anemic and phony corporate climate pledge gambit appears to have been coordinated by the .com, Global Optimism. Global Optimism is co-founded by Christiana Figueres, a former UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) executive who oversaw the creation of the IPCC's grossly underestimated global fossil-fuel reduction targets. These are the same global fossil fuel reduction targets that strongly benefited fossil fuel-producing nations and fossil fuel-related industries. (More about the IPCC's gross underestimation of global warming fossil fuel targets and its many climate politicization problems in the references below.)
From a distance, it looks like Global Optimism might possibly be heavily funded by Bezos or Amazon or other big fossil fuel corporate emitters trying to convince us they are doing the right things concerning global warming. From a distance, Global Optimism looks like a slick front organization designed to protect corporate interests and ongoing profits while making us think those corporations are doing true good for the environment and are working to effectively fix global warming.

Click here to see the REAL 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets and why we and the above-named corporations must get close to a 75% reduction in total global fossil fuel use (oil, natural gas, coal, etc.) by 2025, not the far, far less net-zero emission levels they have pledged by 2040! (In the technical notes at the bottom of the 2025 fossil fuel reduction specification page, you will see each calculation and compensation for the various factors that make up the actual required global fossil fuel reduction numbers.)

Click here to see a detailed "big picture" catastrophic meltdown of our many global warming consequences and tipping points. Their interactions with our other 11 major global challenges will produce starvation and extinction for much of humanity by mid-century and near-total or total extinction beginning as soon as 2070.

It is time to also call for global warming legal accountability, the immediate termination of all global fossil fuel subsidies, and placing a worldwide price for all corporations on their carbon, methane, and other greenhouse gas pollution. (For carbon pollution for all corporations this price should be in the range of $150 or more per ton for each top of carbon emitted.)
