  • More About the IPCC's Very Serious Climate Sensitivity Calculation Errors

    Last Updated 11.13.23

A new major climate change  study has just been released which dramatically increases the IPCC's serious underestimation and error problems considerably. We strongly recommend you start with this article and then come back and read the page below.

    Introduction

Alvin Urquhart, a Job One advisory board member, created this article. It is recommended if you are a science person and want to see the complex and detailed science and mathematics behind how the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has grossly underestimated our coming climate consequences and their time frames by significantly minimizing the Climate Sensitivity calculation amount. (Climate Sensitivity is a constant used in and relied upon in many of the most critical and complex calculations relating to predicting our climate change future.)

If you do not understand climate sensitivity, we strongly recommend you read this definition. Understanding it and having it correct is indispensable to predicting our climate future accurately

The following article is partially derived from the 2050 Goals of the IPCC. The article below also refers to James Hansen's (the world-famous former NASA climate scientist) most recent and scary article on climate change's climate-sensitive problems at the IPCC. (We did a brief review of Hansen's new climate sensitivity article here. Hansen's climate science in his climate sensitivity article was dense, so we tried to make it more understandable to the general public in this article here. This article links to Hansen's full paper as well.)

This article, along with James Hansen's original climate sensitivity article, helps to explain one of the biggest reasons why our organization consistently says that the IPCC's summary reports, on average, are underestimated between 20 to 40% or more.

And finally, Dr. Peter Carter, another climate scientist, has brought up the issue of climate sensitivity errors at the IPCC even before James Hansen. Dr. Peter Carter's earlier climate sensitivity article is found here.

Difficulties in reaching the 2050 goals of the IPCC

    Report 11: June 1, 2023

The IPCC has presented several scenarios of global warming, only one of which, scenario (RCP 2.6), met the goal of having a 50% chance of remaining below an increase of 1.50 C by 2050. At the other extreme, scenario (RCP 8.5–which approaches a continuation of business as usual), has the possibility of reaching over 50C warming by 2100.(RCP stands for Representative Climate Pathways.)

    pastedGraphic.png

The IPCC goals of keeping global temperatures below 1.50 C by 2050 and at net zero (00C) by 2021 are highly unlikely because of:

    1. difficulties in modeling and projecting the course of global warming;
    2. inadequate concern about ‘tipping points’ that herald unstoppable increases.
    3. inadequate pledges by national governments to reach the IPCC goals;
    4. cultural inertia that resists changing attitudes and actions of nations, industries, and people;
    5. and reliance on technology to solve the problems of global warming (I will discuss this in a later Report.)

Climate Forcing Gases. The growth of climate forcing greenhouse gases is shown in the diagram below. (Each gas forces the heat to rise and remain in the atmosphere differently.) If the present course of global heating is maintained, the climate forcing gases will increase temperatures. The red band (in Fig. 5 from Hansen et alia) represents trace gases including chlorofluorocarbons, which have declined since having been highly regulated since the late 1970s.

Global warming in the pipeline James E. Hansen,et alia

Even the low, unattainable climate-forcing scenarios of the IPCC, do not reflect the more recent modifications of global models, which create pathways closer to RCP8.5. The pathways are chosen based on estimates of their sensitivity to global surface warming.

Climate sensitivity is defined as the equilibrium warming resulting from a doubling of atmospheric CO2. It is assumed that, in the long run, the heat of the Earth is in equilibrium when the heat coming to the Earth from the sun equals the heat leaving the Earth. Equilibrium slowly changes as the orbit of the Earth around the sun changes, as ice sheets grow and retreat, as land area and cover change, as clouds and water increase or decline, etc. The diagram below shows that as global forcing changed over the past 400,000 years so did the temperatures measured in water isotopes in Antarctic ice. This represents over 400,000 years of long-term equilibrium of the Earth. Since 1750, however, global forcing has greatly exceeded the near equilibrium.

    pastedGraphic_3.png

(In the diagram, 40C was the assumed metric of climate sensitivity since 1750.)  Global warming in the pipeline James E. Hansen,et alia

The importance of the level of climate sensitivity is in knowing how climate deviates from long range equilibrium and how global temperatures react to levels of CO2. As an example, the next diagram indicates that when a sensitivity is determined to be 30C, (i.e. deviates from equilibrium by 30C) a recorded temperature of 20C would be relatively stable when the concentration of CO2 remained under about (350-400 ppm). Whereas with a sensitivity determined to be 4.50C, a temperature of 30C would be stable when the concentration remained in the realm of 445-490 ppm of CO2. When climate sensitivity is larger,  the temperature when CO2 is doubled (Equilibrium Global Average Temperature) will also be much higher.

    pastedGraphic_4.png

Of course, the relevance to humanity is that higher climate sensitivity means that temperatures will become higher and come faster when the levels of GHG increase. In the current climate crises, the use of a correct sensitivity determination is crucial to understanding the results of continued GHG emissions. Since 1979, the most used measure of ECS has varied from 1.50C to 4.50C. The IPCC uses 30C in the climate model on which it bases discussions about goal-setting and the ways to remain under their goal.

    Factors in determining ECS

    pastedGraphic_5.png

(Climate sensitivity in the Anthropocene. M. Previdi, et alia Earth Syst. Dynam. Discuss., 2, 531–550, 2011)

Climate forcing initiates changes in atmospheric climate warming directly. But also, feedback mechanisms release stored heat as the Earth moves toward equilibrium as outlined in the description of Fig. 1a above. Especially notice the large amount of energy stored in the oceans and the potential for atmospheric climate warming through releasing its energy to the atmosphere. Studies of the possible feedback of heat stored in the oceans and the continents, and the melting of ice sheets and glaciers are in process.

    pastedGraphic_6.png

    K. von Schuckmann et al.: Heat stored in the Earth system Earth Syst. Sci. Data, 12, 2013–2041, 2020

One of these studies (J.Hansen et alia) has resulted in a ECS setting of about 100C.  [very far from the IPCC goal of net zero (00C) by 2100.]

In addition studies of paleo-climates have led to refinements in understanding the ways aerosols affect global warming. An additional probable change from the present is that global heating may  increase because of a decline in cooling from aerosols. (Shown (Fig. 19) in the next diagram in yellow.) Before 1970, cooling by aerosols decreased global warming; although since then, reduced amounts of aerosols may even add to global warming. Overall, aerosol cooling may still reduce the possible  temperature anomaly by 30C , possibly resulting in an ECS of 70C.

(See Global warming in the pipeline James E. Hansen, Makiko Sato, Leon Simons, Larissa S. Nazarenko, Karina vonSchuckmann, Norman G. Loeb, Matthew B. Osman, Pushker Kharecha, Qinjian Jin, George Tselioudis, Andrew Lacis, Reto Ruedy, Gary Russell, Junji Cao, Jing Li).

    pastedGraphic_7.png

Because heat is temporarily stored in the Earth, global equilibrium will remain out of balance for decades to come no matter what efforts humans can make to lower emissions of GHG. Eventual release of stored heat will result in increased feedback added to heat from CO2 that is directly emitted to the atmosphere.

    2. Tipping Points (See the fuller explanation of tipping points in Understanding Critical Climate Change and Global Warming Tipping Points – Job One for Humanity)

Climate tipping points are the temperatures or levels of emission of energy that initiate or support radical further changes–often self reinforcing–to the Earth systems in which they are embedded. Once initiated, tipping points lead to further imbalances in the climate equilibrium and cannot be stopped until the climate system is greatly readjusted to an equilibrium. The Earth has already passed a tipping point where drastic climate changes have occurred such as increased flooding; heat domes, sea level rise, melting glaciers and ice sheets, etc.

The amount of greenhouse gases measured in carbon ppm indicates possible tipping points. Humanity is experiencing the first phase of a tipping point. The second chart below indicates probable consequences of passing a 1.50C or greater tipping point.

    3. IPCC Goals and National Determined Commitments NDC (2022).

GHG emission ranges. The most obvious problem of the climate model chosen by the IPCC–RCP2.6–that I discussed above is the disparity between the National Determined Commitments (NDC) and the selected goals. An illustration of part of the problem is shown by part of the projected increase in greenhouse gas emissions that outstrip the NDC pledges and far exceed the levels necessary to reach either a 1.50C or even a 20C goal. A simplified diagram indicates that even the National pledged reductions (NDC) are far above the 1.50 C goal of the IPCC and the projected increases in the emissions of continued ‘business as usual.’ increase of 2 times of CO2.

    pastedGraphic_12.png

For over 50 years, conferences have alerted national leaders to the necessity of pledging and meeting those pledges if climate disasters were to be avoided or ameliorated.

    pastedGraphic_13.png

To date, no progress has been reached in lowering the emissions of global atmospheric GHG; Greenhouse gasses continue to accumulate, delaying the possibility of meeting the IPCC goals.

    pastedGraphic_14.png

Global warming in the pipeline James E. Hansen,et alia

The most recent report of the IPCC (2023) states that emissions of GHG need to be cut by almost half by 2030, if there is any chance that the 1.50C goal can be met. The diagram below showing predicted changes between 2020 and 2030 indicates that the gap between actual emissions and progress to the needed decline in emissions is widening. Thus indicating that the goals will not be met.

    pastedGraphic_15.png

    pastedGraphic_16.png

Other climate models that address the goal of 20C set by the IPCC fail to meet that goal.

One of the largest of these studies of climate models was done by The Washington Post in collaboration with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.

                                                                                                                                 (Washington Post 12/1/2022; updated 5/22/2023)

Potsdam Institute researchers rated the ability of over 1,200 scenarios based on their progress in meeting the 1.5°C goal by 2050. Each of five dimensions were rated as to their probability of meeting each of five dimensions. The three categories used were 1. speculative, 2. challenging, or 3. reasonable.

    The five dimensions are:

    1. Carbon dioxide removal and storage underground

    2. Carbon dioxide removal using land

    3. Carbon intensity reductions

    4. Changing energy demand

    5. Fewer methane emissions

For various reasons only 112 possible scenarios could possibly reach the goal. Of those scenarios, 86 were rejected because they indicated that the predicted temperatures would highly overshoot the IPCC goals. 26 pathways would result in only a temporarily low or no overshot of the 1.50C goal. And only 11 pathways are left when only challenging or reasonable dimensions were considered.

    pastedGraphic_17.png

Of those, only 4 pathways remained even if ‘carbon dioxide removal and storage underground’ was not considered ‘reasonable’ but still considered ‘challenging’. If all categories were considered as merely reasonable, zero pathways remain.

    pastedGraphic_18.png

The Washington Post concludes with the following statement:

“At the U.N. Climate Change Conference late last month, world leaders reaffirmed the 1.5C goal. But these scenarios show that without dramatic action–action the leaders did not commit to taking–it most likely will not be possible.

“Or at least, not without a major overshoot first. That is where the world is currently heading.”

Job One for Humanity diagrams the problems (JOFH).

JOFH’s diagram shows that severe climate warming will occur when the underestimation of global climate sensitivity (20-40%) as well as the effects of tipping points are added to the current IPCC predictions.

    pastedGraphic_19.png

    4. Cultural inertia

The inertia of society, politics, and economy is the main reason that climate warming is continuing today.

It is impossible to deny the benefits brought about by the burning of fossil fuels. Who can not appreciate better health, living longer, being able to move and communicate over huge distances, having food, services and goods from all over the world, having the opportunity of better education, and on and on? An acceleration of the “good life” so that everyone can appreciate it is a large part of “progress, development, and growth” that underlies world views today. Even intelligent leaders who are aware of climate warming still want “economic growth” to support the continuation of the extraordinary economic profits and social benefits of modern times.

Perhaps President Obama summed it up best at the end of his presidency:

If you had to choose a moment in history to be born, and you did not know ahead of time who you would be—you didn’t know whether you were going to be born into a wealthy family or a poor family, what country you’d be born in, whether you were going to be a man or a woman—if you had to choose blindly what moment you’d want to be born, you’d choose now.

As a simple example of the ways this is playing out in its most basic form has been shown by studies of the ways the fossil fuel industry, knowing the probable consequences of global heating, continue to exploit irreplaceable fossil fuels that underlie modern life. I include only one very powerful example of current disregard for continuing and accelerating climate disasters.

Carbon Bombs. The Guardian newspaper shows the fossil fuel industry’s and governmental regard to growth in production of fossil fuels in an article by Damian Carrington and Matthew Taylor. (Wed 11 May 2022 Last modified on Mon 3 Apr 2023 ;” Revealed: the ‘carbon bombs’ set to trigger catastrophic climate breakdown”)

“The fossil fuel industry’s short-term expansion plans involve the start of oil and gas projects that will produce greenhouse gases equivalent to a decade of CO2 emissions from China, the world’s biggest polluter.”

The next two diagrams show fossil fuel reserves and the impact on the global carbon budget in relation to the IPCC goal of 1.50C.

    pastedGraphic_20.png

    pastedGraphic_21.png

“These plans include 195 carbon bombs, gigantic oil and gas projects that would each result in at least a billion tonnes of CO2 emissions over their lifetimes, in total equivalent to about 18 years of current global CO2 emissions. About 60% of these have already started pumping.”

    pastedGraphic_22.png

“The dozen biggest oil companies are on track to spend $103m a day for the rest of the decade exploiting new fields of oil and gas that cannot be burned if global heating is to be limited to well under 2C.”

    pastedGraphic_23.png

“The Middle East and Russia often attract the most attention in relation to future oil and gas production but the US, Canada and Australia are among the countries with the biggest expansion plans and the highest number of carbon bombs. The US, Canada and Australia also give some of the world’s biggest subsidies for fossil fuels per capita.”

    pastedGraphic_24.png

The article also indicates that the production of fossil fuels receives large governmental subsidies.

    pastedGraphic_25.png

The shortcomings of the political realm are not only failure to agree to the weak goals of the IPCC but also failure to produce legislation that might require acceptance of those goals. Instead, in the United States, the Congress produced some legislation, such as the IRA, which relies on technology that has little chance of addressing the major issues of growth and expansion of the consumption of energy.

    6. Technology

I will delay, to another report, commenting on the dependence on new, more efficient, or otherwise improved technologies to reach the IPCC goals.

The Climate Justice Now Program: Get Justice and Financial Restitution for Climate Change Victims

    Last updated 3.14.24.

Over 2,000 lawsuits in at least 28 countries have been filed against global fossil fuel cartel members. These lawsuits currently involve hundreds of billions of dollars in loss and damage actions.

Over the next ten to fifteen years, it is estimated that the global fossil fuel cartel will eventually be forced to pay out trillions of dollars in loss and damage reparation payments to governments and in loss and damage judgments to private individuals and businesses in litigation worldwide.

Eventually, the total worldwide climate change loss and damage payouts from all fossil fuel cartel litigation will be exponentially larger than all of the billions of dollars paid in cigarette, asbestos, and opioid judgments.

About Job One for Humanity's Climate Justice Now program

The Climate Justice Now program is designed around a simple goal that embodies the most profound meaning of climate justice. It is also based on a simple legal principle:

Those who have caused, facilitated, or enabled climate change loss and damage must be forced to pay for that loss and damage and be held liable for any criminal actions committed while doing so.

Homeowners, businesses, insurance companies, innocent investors, local, county, state, or national governments, or their innocent taxpayers must never be required to pay for the climate change loss and damage caused by the intentional and decades-long acts of the perpetrators of climate change.

In other words, when you take all of the profits away from those parties causing climate change, the climate change crisis will end.

Why the Climate Justice Now program must expand worldwide?

There are many good reasons why the Climate Justice Now program must rapidly expand worldwide:

    a. no previous climate change treaty has lowered or slowed greenhouse gases from fossil fuel burning, which causes global warming.

    b. none of the previous 28 COP international climate change conferences sponsored by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have lowered or slowed greenhouse gases from fossil fuel burning.

    c. not even decades of massive worldwide climate change street protests have stopped or even slowed climate change from worsening at even faster rates!

    d. every national, state, and local government aware of the climate change emergency has also utterly failed for over 60 years to do anything that has lowered the ever-rising toxic and polluting greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere.

    e. Our politicians are so fossil fuel cartel compromised that nothing will get done to reduce global fossil use adequately or in time to avert mass extinction. (Our governments have failed primarily because of a massive, multi-billion dollar, decades-long climate change disinformation campaign created by the global fossil fuel cartel as described here.)

    f. If we do not focus most of our combined efforts on something more effective than what has been done for the last 60 years, we will soon experience a climate change nightmare resulting eventually in a global Climageddon event.

There is no doubt that our fossil fuel cartel-compromised politicians and governments have utterly failed to control the escalating climate change emergency. The best proof of their gross and embarrassing total failure is the ever-rising amounts of carbon (C02,) methane (CH4,) and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.

Atmospheric carbon, methane, and nitrous oxide levels ARE the most valid objective measurements that clearly show if our fossil fuel cartel-paralyzed politicians and governments are making legitimate progress in fixing climate change.

As of February 3, 2020 our atmospheric CO2 level was carbon 426 ppm. Looking at the atmospheric carbon graph (CO2) just above and then the greenhouse gas graph with methane and nitrous oxide on it a bit further down this page, it becomes painfully evident that anyone who is telling you that we are making progress on fixing climate change and preventing escalating endless climate change catastrophes, either:

    1. does not know how to read an atmospheric carbon, methane, or nitrous oxide graph (all of which are getting worse at even faster rates) or

    2. does not understand the complex climate change science, or its mathematics, and physics, or

    3. has financial interests incentivizing their actions to keep the global public ignorant of climate change's real danger and risk level. (Click here to see humanity's current uncensored actual climate change risk level.) or,

    4. Is lying through their teeth for some other unknown reason.

The greenhouse gas graph below highlights today's painful story of all three major atmospheric greenhouse gases: carbon (CO2), methane (CH4), and Nitrous Oxide (N2O), which come from burning fossil fuel and its toxic pollution.

The greenhouse gas graph is from the United Nations IPCC summary report. The numbers at the bottom of the greenhouse gas illustration below are the historical AD dates.

Notice how, from about 1950 to 1980, the rates of toxic and poisonous fossil fuel-caused greenhouse gases going into our atmosphere began to rise exponentially.

After looking at the above two graphs showing the actual results of everything our politicians and governments have done to reduce global fossil fuel use over the last 4-6 decades, only someone in complete denial or delusional would still say we are making any global fossil fuel reduction progress, or that what we are currently doing to reduce fossil fuel use is working!

Our accelerating global heating threat is now so great that we have no other choice but to bypass the disinformed, compromised, or cowardly politicians who have failed to protect us. To protect the future of humanity, we must bypass and act directly using the three parts of the Climate Justice Now program.

A considerable part of the new Climate Justice Now program is to:

    a. share the results and information from ALL of the climate change perpetrators' worldwide crimes on display in a completed online public trial found here.

    b. do everything possible to support new worldwide lawsuits to help the victims of the perpetrators of climate change receive full financial restitution for the damages they have suffered as a consequence of climate change.

    c. connect with and collaborate with all of the other organizations worldwide working for climate justice now on common projects and events.

What is the True Urgency of the Climate Justice Now Program?

    There are two main reasons:

    1. At this point, current climate science also strongly suggests that only a worldwide and rapidly scaling up the Climate Justice Now program has any realistic hope of preventing humanity from crossing the last-chance atmospheric carbon 450 ppm near-total extinction threshold.

If we cross the last chance carbon 450 ppm threshold and tipping point, we enter into the second phase of runaway global warming, and about half of humanity will perish by 2050. That tipping point threshold of carbon 450 ppm will come up in eight years (or considerably less if we keep adding more carbon annually at the current 2024 rate of almost six carbon ppm.)

Click here to learn why reaching carbon 450 PPM is our eventual mass human extinction.

(Click here for a deeper dive into the climate science on why the carbon 450 ppm threshold is humanity's climate change point of no return for the critical climate stability essential to human life.)

    2. Over the last 60 years, the world's many environmental groups have also totally failed with every strategy and tactic they have ever used to reduce or even slow the amount of toxic global warming accelerating greenhouse gases going into our atmosphere. Because of points 1 and 2, the urgency to find a truly effective way to fix climate change immediately (like the Climate Justice Now program could not be more real!

Click here to see those strategies that work too slowly for our current threat level.

Click here to see the strategies that will not work in time.

Why the Climate Justice Now program will work to lower greenhouse gases where many past environmental and climate programs have failed

There is an old and wise saying:

"The quickest way to solve a problem is to remove all profit from everyone who benefits from the problem. The problem will then "magically" begin to disappear."

With every lawsuit filed and every lawsuit won, the fossil fuel industry has less profit and, therefore, less ability to continue to pollute the atmosphere and environment with its deadly toxic products.

Our new Climate Justice Now program is critical because:

    1. It exposes the actual perpetrators of climate change in many new ways and the climate change facts the perpetrators never want anyone to know.

    2. It allows the victims of climate change consequences to get financial restitution for their losses and damages from the perpetrators of climate change.

    3. It can rapidly take the profit out of the climate change perpetrator's wrongful actions and rapidly and significantly diminish the perpetrator's resources and ability to continue its toxic, polluting actions on all humanity and biological life.

With far fewer resources, the global fossil fuel cartel will not be able to explore new fossil fuel deposits, nor will it be able to extract those fossil fuels and add them to the marketplace. The remaining fossil fuel supplier's costs will rise so high that they must raise their prices far beyond where they are now, which will incentivize and speed the transition to green, nonpolluting energy sources. With enough successful lawsuits, it will become impossible for the global fossil fuel cartel to continue selling its toxic, polluting products.

When individuals, businesses, local communities, and state and national governments file their lawsuits for loss and damage (and in some areas of government criminal acts), we bypass the failures of our politicians and our slow-moving fossil fuel conflict-ridden legislatures. We put direct power and direct action directly into the hands of individuals, businesses, local communities, and state and national governments. This direct action strategy with powerful profit-removing consequences is our best chance to save humanity from crossing the last chance, carbon 450 ppm extinction accelerating tipping point.

Here are the audiences for the Climate Change Now program and its climate change victim financial restitution information

In this surge of worldwide litigation against the perpetrators of climate change, many different types of climate change victims are now suing the perpetrators of climate change:

    a. home buyers (who were not accurately told how climate change could or would risk or damage their home purchase by real estate brokers or mortgage companies.)

    b. farmers, farm cooperatives, and farmers’ associations. (Farmers are currently disproportionately suffering massive financial losses from crop failures and low crop yields due to escalating climate change-related consequences. Climate change-driven extreme weather events are defined, in part, as heatwaves, heat domes, droughts, wildfires, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados, floods, flooding, sea level rise, rain bombs, wind storms [Derechos], dust storms, wildfire smoke events, unseasonable cold spells, and other abnormal, unseasonal, or record-breaking weather related to rapidly accelerating climate change.)

    c. business owners (who have suffered loss and damage because of the many primary and secondary consequences of climate change.)

    d. investors who were not accurately told how escalating climate change could or would threaten or risk their investments. (Many investors have suffered losses in various traditional and non-traditional investment vehicles where the actual climate change risks contained within those investments were inadequately disclosed or significantly underestimated and where if a non-negligent, due diligence review had been done by those offering such investments, those investments would have had to reveal significantly higher possible to probable climate change consequences and climate loss-related risks.)

    e. local governments and local agencies. (Local taxpayers are being forced to pay for cartel-caused climate change damages that insurance company policies do not cover and they did not cause.)

    f. state attorney generals and national government agencies. State and national taxpayers are getting stuck with the soaring costs of climate change consequences as more insurance companies cancel climate change-exposed insurance policies. (More state attorney generals and government agencies are filing litigation against the cartel to recover the financial losses and damages for their taxpayers.)

    g. undeveloped nations who also have experienced vastly disproportional climate change loss and damage in relation to the total fossil fuel pollution they have produced or put in the atmosphere since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution about 1800 are now using the courts to recover their climate losses and damages instead of continuing to beg and wait for the “too little too late” help they were promised at international climate conferences.

    h. companies involved in green energy generation or green energy products. The fossil fuel cartel had extensive programs to stop or reduce green energy subsidies or stop or slow laws that would have made the global transition to green energy far easier and faster. Had it not been for the global fossil fuel cartel's anti-green energy actions, the world would be decades ahead in the green energy transition, and our current climate change consequences would be far less. (See this online trial for more information.)

    i. climate change activists around the world.

Here are the Climate Justice Now program's main parts

Part 1: is the online public trial of the perpetrators of climate change and their crimes. This online trial details decades of cartel toxic pollution, disinformation, and criminal actions. It succinctly explains why worldwide law firms, attorneys, and government authorities will eventually recover trillions of dollars in climate change loss and damage awards and settlements for their clients or countries.

Law firms, attorneys, and government authorities are currently using this online trial to quickly get their litigation teams up to speed on cartel litigation, crimes, and tort charge options. The many new disclosures in this online cartel public trial have unsettled and even surprised the most hardened and well-educated climate change activists. This page also includes support organizations for whistleblowers on cartel crimes.

Click here for Part 1, which is an online public trial of the perpetrators of climate change and their shocking crimes against humanity over the last 4-6 decades.

It is a must-read for even hardened climate change activists and researchers because it lays out the full spectrum of serious crimes committed by the perpetrators of climate change, many of which have never been seen before.

Part 2: Click here for the master list of evidence and documentation for the global fossil fuel cartel jury trial and for ongoing litigation against the global fossil fuel cartel. We just moved this page because it is expanding quickly.

Part 3: lists existing financial climate change damage restitution court cases against the perpetrators of climate change, lists law firms that can help you with litigation against the perpetrators of climate change damage, and provides powerful tips on filing a climate change damage restitution lawsuit for damage that you, your business, or your government have experienced. Click here for Part 3.

Part 4: Click here for a list of law firms that may be able to help the many worldwide victims of climate change. Simply because it directly and immediately starts removing all profit from cartel wrongdoing. Eventually and hopefully soon, successful court judgments and big damage awards against the global fossil fuel cartel, related companies, senior executives, and associated enablers may prove to become more effective in ending the climate change extinction emergency than previous public protests, the previous 27 international climate conferences, and current climate educational efforts.

Part 4: Click here for the most critical actions needed to stop the ongoing crimes of the global fossil fuel cartel from destroying humanity and achieve climate change justice.

  • What's the best way you can fix climate change & defeat the fossil fuel cartel disinformation machine?

    Last updated 2.4.24.

Most people do not have any real or direct influence over their politicians.

Still, singlehandedly by doing the following two actions, you can move our politicians and governments closer to finally fixing the accelerating climate change emergency.

You can also help defeat the global fossil fuel cartel's massive global climate change disinformation campaign.

Here are the two most powerful actions you can do now:

    1. Send the link to our website to your networks using our social media tools to share what you are discovering. We have made this fast and super-easy to do on this page. You will also get social capital points and can privately see the people you inspire to visit our website. Please do this fast and super-simple step first and try our social media sharing tools.

    2. The next decisive personal action is to send this page link to anyone you know who has suffered damage and losses due to climate change consequences.

This page link will help them get financial restitution for the damages they have suffered but they did not cause. It will also help remove global fossil fuel assets in climate change damage lawsuits, reducing their ability to keep "fueling" climate change.

If, by chance, you do happen to have a direct influence over your politicians, you should start your personal actions on this politician's influence page.

Everything you need to about the climate change emergency in our new frequently asked questions FAQ

    Last updated 1.19.24.

Not everyone who comes to our website understands that almost all climate change information they have heard from the media and their governments is highly censored and significantly underestimated. For decades, the global fossil fuel cartel has spent billions of dollars on climate change disinformation to protect its 28 trillion dollar-a-year income.

This prior censorship experience means they can easily become shocked or upset when they read the uncensored, accurate climate change information found below for the first time. To protect individuals new to learning about the climate change emergency, we have created a rating system for every question you see below in our FAQ.

At the end of every question in every topic section below, you will find the following ratings so that you will not be unpleasantly surprised or dive into materials that may be too difficult for you.

We rate each FAQ answer according to difficulty and emotional upset potential levels. The difficulty levels of B, I, or A are beginner, intermediate, or advanced, and the emotional upset levels of 1, 2, and 3 are low, medium, and high.

Our FAQ contains everything you want to know about climate change and its causes, consequences, and solutions. It contains the uncensored and unpoliticized answers to questions our climate change think tank has been repeatedly asked over the last 13 years.

This FAQ contains serious and often upsetting adult climate change matters and is not for children under 16 without a parent or adult filtering which information is appropriate for the young person.

Section 1: What is climate change and global warming? How does it happen?

What are climate change and global warming, and how do they work? (B, 1)  Click here.

What are four essential things to know about climate change? (I, 2)

    1. climate change is dangerous and deadly air pollution caused by humanity burning fossil fuels. (Continuing to burn additional fossil fuels creates an ever thicker blanket of carbon and other greenhouse gas pollution (methane and nitrous oxide) in our atmosphere, trapping ever-increasing levels of heat on Earth.)

    2. this fossil fuel burning air pollution then, directly or indirectly, causes record-breaking; heatwaves, heat domes, droughts, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados, floods and flooding, rain bombs, wind storms [Derechos], dust storms, wildfires, wildfire smoke events, unseasonable cold spells, and other abnormal and unseasonal weather.

    3. some heat-increasing polluting greenhouse gases, like carbon, the largest one, remain in our atmosphere for centuries to thousands of years. This long-term persistence of carbon in our atmosphere means that the relatively stable weather you experienced when you were younger is now gone forever, or at least until all of the additional fossil fuel-burning carbon, which we have been polluting our atmosphere with since the beginning of the industrial revolution has been removed (hundreds to thousands of years from now.)

    4. not only is the relative stability of the climate of your younger memories gone forever, every day, as humanity burns more fossil fuels (which adds even more greenhouse gas pollution to our atmosphere,) we will continue to break new records and make today's existing climate change problems and weather significantly worse in our own future and for the future four children and future generations.

What are today's ten most important climate change facts and consequences I should know that will most change and affect my life? (I, 2) Click here. (This ten-facts summary is updated weekly as new climate research comes in. This is also one of the three most-read pages on our website.)

How do I know that climate change causes extreme weather and record-breaking weather? (B, 2) Click here.

What is most misunderstood about climate change? (I, 2) Click here.

Will geo-engineering, carbon capture, or other "new technologies" work in time to save us from the climate change emergency?

Here is our position on new technologies and geoengineering. We hold the position that:

    1. We should fund appropriate technologies to help us rapidly achieve complete and non-toxic global green energy generation as soon as is technologically possible. (Please be sure you understand the definition of appropriate technologies.)

Appropriate new technologies will have a major role in the long-term retooling and reorientation of our economy to facilitate the final transition to green renewable energy. It can improve smart grid systems, energy storage capabilities, electricity-based mass transportation, retrofitting buildings, sustainable agriculture, zero waste, and more. Appropriate green technology can even help provide access to cleaner and greener cooking for the poorest 3 billion people who spend hours each day collecting solid biomass fuels and burning them for cooking.

Appropriate new technologies are not some new upgraded version of nuclear power or scaling up the older versions of nuclear power. Nuclear power is not the solution. It is another cool new set of problems that avoid the real solution which is radically reducing global fossil fuel usage to the levels mentioned above. Additionally, there is no possible way to physically scale up building enough new nuclear reactor energy generation capacity to replace ALL of global fossil fuel use in the amounts needed (mentioned above) and in the time needed to save us from the worst consequences that will occur over the next 30-50 years.  (Also please see this MIT study on the realistic timeframes for green energy generation to replace fossil fuel use.)

    2. Fund other possible new technologies as an emergency PLAN B backup plan if we fail to meet the scale-down fossil fuel use targets (mentioned above), but only after we have first well-funded the actions detailed above and the major world focus is on radically cutting global fossil fuel use to come close to the 2025 targets. This is our last-chance-plan for when all other remedial actions of the Job One Plan have failed to slow or lessen escalating global warming, and we are about to go into out-of-control runaway global heating and Phase 2 and 3 of the Climageddon Scenario. (Please see this page which describes precisely when and how new technologies like geo-engineering may or will be helpful to save what is left of humanity.)

In spite of the grand promises that are being touted about how new geoengineering technologies may help us suck carbon out of the atmosphere, there are critical warnings about any rushed or desperate implementation of these new and unproven technologies. A myriad of unsolved problems attend the proposed “geoengineering” technologies, not the least of which is they are still in the “theoretical drawing board stage,” have no economically proven working models; they cannot be scaled to draw down carbon as computer-modeled, and much more.

Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs) are particularly troublesome, and these currently nonexistent technologies are built into current IPCC prediction models. One overwhelming reason they are not feasible any time soon is that some examples of them require growing carbon crops on land the size of India each and every year for decades. The world does not have anything close to this amount of land to lend to a carbon capture scheme because the land is already being used for food crops for human use and consumption. When the choice is starving hundreds of millions of people to grow carbon-capture crops to remediate what humans did in the past, then we must say that this plan is nonsense and look for other technologies. And as Professor Kevin Anderson explains in his lucid video in March 2017,[2] that nonsense is just what many of the international IPCC models now suggest.

The key warnings about planning for nonexistent or economically unproven new technologies (particularly those that will save us by sucking carbon out of the air) to resolve the runaway global heating extinction emergency are:

We cannot allow new, nonexistent, or economically unproven technologies to lull us into a false sense of comfort that we can continue to pour more carbon and methane pollution into our atmosphere—or preserve the dying fossil fuel energy generation business model. The emphasis on developing these new technologies must always be to move past the fossil fuel energy generation age. There can be no turning back! We have entered the age of green energy generation, and we need to go forward full speed to get us out of the existing escalating, runaway global heating extinction emergency.

Before demonstrations at scale with proven economic viability, we cannot expect that the “theoretical drawing board” of geoengineering technologies will save us from what is coming. Relying heavily on miraculous new technologies to save us is a dangerous strategy and should never replace the primary focus of doing the most in-harmony-with-nature actions and the other systemic actions recommended in the Job One Plan. These actions do not carry the potentially disastrous side effects of many new technologies employed as last-chance solutions suggested in the most desperate of times and situations.

We must never forget that almost all new technology is based on mechanical, three-dimensional engineering principles that are far simpler than the principles of complex adaptive systems like the biological and climate systems of our precious planet. Engineering is generally a simple and linear three-dimensional set of cause-and-effect actions. Biology and the climate are complex adaptable systems with nonlinear, self-organizing, and unpredictable spontaneously emergent They should be seen as having many more non-cause-and-effect “dimensions.” They also have far more unknown and complex tipping points, interconnectivities, and interdependencies than are found within the limited mechanical rules and solutions characteristic of the nonliving, mechanical world. Frequently, applying mechanical solutions to complex adaptive systems such as our biological and climate systems results in unpleasant surprises in the form of unintended negative consequences.

We cannot allow our individual or collective hubris about our many great mechanical engineering accomplishments to blind us to the risk of overlooking the possibility that new mechanical technology solutions applied to global warming’s complex adaptable systems may, in fact, produce equal or even greater damage than the problem they're meant to solve. For example, placing massive amounts of sun-reflecting particles into the complex adaptive system of the atmosphere and global climate is being widely discussed as a mechanical new technology solution to the runaway global heating extinction emergency. What if, as an unintended side effect, those particles blocked the normal rainfall in a nuclear-armed country like China and caused immediate mass starvation and death? With its own population dying before its eyes, where do you think the Chinese government would point its nuclear weapons, or from whom would they demand immediate restitution? The unintended risks could easily and quickly get out of hand, leading to unpredictable and potentially worse consequences if any of the nations harmed have nuclear weapons. Additionally, once our ecological and climate systems have been stressed beyond their respective tipping points and points of no return, it will be far too late to develop or deploy any technologically useful geoengineering repair or cooling For additional information on the many problems and dangers of geoengineering solutions to the runaway global heating extinction emergency, see these articles by Andrew Revkin,[3] Chelsea Harvey,[4] and John Vidal.[5]

We also cannot expect to extend the use or lifespan of fossil fuels by increasing fossil fuel consumption efficiency. Collective experience and research have repeatedly shown that using technology to increase fossil fuel consumption efficiency or conservation frequently increases overall fossil fuel use rather than reducing it. This is because of the economic savings that increased fossil fuel energy efficiency or conservation provides, acting to create more cash resources to buy or use more things dependent upon using more fossil fuels. This is known as Jevons’s paradox.[6]

In further qualification to what is been said in the section above, it is necessary to state that:

New technology will always play some role, but not the role everyone is hoping for --- the role of the miracle last-minute savior. The essential role that new technology will play will be in providing breakthroughs that will allow increased food production in the poor soils and the sunlight-poor growing seasons of the far north and the far south. New technology will no doubt also provide new solutions to moving our infrastructure to the safe zones as well as creating new types of more sustainable infrastructure and energy generation and use. New technology will also supply many other breakthroughs that will facilitate those who do survive to live longer and more comfortably.

Another major factor to consider when you hear people or organizations vigorously promoting geoengineering or new technologies as our savior from climate change is that this is also part of the decades-old disinformation strategy of the global fossil fuel cartel to distract us from the complex, painful, and radical global fossil fuel cuts that we must make right now and before we cross the 2025 deadlines. They are the invisible well-funded promoters of the inaccurate belief we do not have to radically cut fossil fuels right now because sometime in the future, new technologies and geoengineering will remove all of the toxic carbon pollution they have put into our atmosphere and, therefore, don't worry, just keep using lots of fossil fuels and keep making our fossil fuel cartel trillions of dollars a year.

If you do not believe this is a decades-old and heavily proven global fossil fuel cartel disinformation strategy to create false and unrealistic hope surrounding the capabilities and time frames of new technologies and geoengineering, please click here first, then on this additional link.

What do you mean when you say that climate change and global warming could become or is irreversible? (B, 2)

Irreversible climate change means that we will not be able to get the dangerous levels of excess greenhouse gases (like carbon) out of our atmosphere and back down to a normal and human-safe pre-industrial level for hundreds to thousands of years. (As of July 2023, We are currently at the insane atmospheric carbon level of 420 ppm. We will soon enter the generally considered irreversible and second phase of runaway global heating sometime between 2025-2031. This is when we enter into the carbon 425-450 ppm range.)

It will take nature centuries to thousands of years to remove the carbon from our atmosphere with its natural processes. So when you hear the word irreversible, think of centuries to thousands of years the atmosphere that supported humanity's flourishing can return back to normal.

What are the five decision-action options for dealing with climate change that everyone will eventually consciously or unconsciously choose? (B,1)  Click here.

What is the difference between prioritized, effective critical path climate change action that meets key humanity extinction prevention deadlines and simple climate change progress? (B, 2)

You will hear lots of people and environmental claim we are making climate progress, but that progress is not necessarily what is critically needed to meet extinction-preventing climate change deadlines.

Many things are being done by climate and environmental groups worldwide that can and should be honored as climate change and runaway global heating progress. Unfortunately, we have so little time left to save ourselves from the extinction of the surviving post-2050 half of humanity; we must now focus only on those prioritized, truly effective critical path climate actions that will successfully achieve crucial extinction-prevention deadlines and save, at least, that part of humanity. Unfortunately, these effective prioritized, critical path climate actions are also the most difficult.

To create a climate change critical path action plan, one must first know the most critical deadline and the point where climate change and runaway global heating actually go beyond our control for centuries to millennia. Unfortunately, many climate activists and environmental organizations do not honestly know where this critical climate change survival deadline is!

Consequently, they develop climate change action programs that do not fit the true urgency of our emergency. Many climate and environmental groups are merely rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic instead of simply steering away from the looming iceberg. They do not have their climate change humanity-saving priorities right.

Fortunately, this critical climate change deadline is known and available here, so they can quickly correct this once attention is called to this additional critical 10-fact information.

If climate and environmental education and action organizations do not shift their mission tactics away from the many feel-good, off-critical path actions that produce minor climate progress, we cannot save the surviving half of humanity post-2050, and humanity is in deep trouble.

Therefore, if you see any climate and environmental organizations focusing on many feel-good, off-critical path climate progress minor steps designed (often to keep members motivated and donating), it is necessary to disrupt them and these activities.

With these climate and environmental organizations, start with our climate educational tactics first! Let them see the correct climate extinction deadline we must work toward. Then, many will change strategies once they see their minor climate progress actions in the light of "all hands on deck" for the rapidly approaching runaway global heating extinction and points of no return. Many will also begin to work on critical path actions like those found in Part Four and Part Three of the Job One Climate and Runaway Global Heating Solutions and Resilience Plan.

We do not have the luxury with so little time remaining (2025-2031) to soothe ourselves with bits and pieces of "feel good" off-deadline, off-critical path minor, and deck chair rearranging climate progress. Instead, we must be entirely focused on the effective remaining prioritized critical path actions that can and will save about half of humanity from extinction by 2050 and before it is too late!

That being said, it is balanced and wise to know that ongoing individual actions in reducing fossil fuel use are also essential to save as much of humanity as possible. In many areas of our website, we have emphasized our government's critical first and primary role as being the most effective and necessary tool to enforce the required 2025 global fossil fuel reductions. While that is a true priority to save half of humanity post-2050, there is also an essential role for the ongoing growing individual-driven fossil fuel reductions that are off the critical path that you do see many environmental organizations promoting.

While individual fossil fuel reductions by hundreds of millions of us are presently too little and too late to save about half of humanity before about 2050, they can still and hopefully will play an important role in what remaining percentage of humanity survives post-2050. After humanity has hit the climate change catastrophe "rock bottom" described here, the net result of our steadily accumulating individual fossil fuel reduction actions could make just enough difference so that as much as 30% of humanity will survive after 2050. If individual fossil fuel reduction actions do not continue to grow and grow significantly, as few as five percent or less of humanity may survive until about 2070. These numbers illuminate the important role of individual actions in reducing fossil fuel use for our post-2050 future.

Do You have a climate change glossary for key terms? (B,1)  Click here.

Why is Job One so open about the painful climate facts of 1/2 of humanity perishing by about 2050?

    1. We see it as a painful near-certainty as we look at climate research and our lack of adequately responding to it.

    2. Progressive, non-climate deniers around the world and undeveloped nation citizens need to understand the actual intensity of the threat and consequences they face so that they may begin their emergency preparation adaptations or migrations while they still have a chance or their chances are good that they can get these things accomplished before they will be challenging to complete.

    3. Well, we know these things produce fear. There are two ways to deal with fear. The evolutionary highest purpose of fear is to mobilize the individual or group for remedial action.

That is what we hope that the legitimate fear generated by the reality of our current climate change double dilemma and pending global holocaust will do with those who respond to fear in proactive ways.

Those who respond to the climate nightmare proactively may be the only ones who will survive, or at least their descendants will survive because that evolutionary fear powerfully motivates them to adapt.

Section 2: What are the primary and secondary consequences of climate change occurring both today and over the next three to five decades?

What are the worst consequences of climate change? (I, 3) Click here.

How will the many worsening climate change consequences affect my daily life and normal routines?  (B, 2)

The many consequences of climate change will not unfold steadily. In general, climate change consequences usually develop in cyclical sporadic surges. These erratic but cyclical climate change consequence surges will continue to increase in severity, frequency, and scale, often reaching new record levels.

After reaching new record levels, the climate change consequence will quickly fall back to near-normal or even below-normal levels. After the consequence falls from record levels, it most likely will move into a plateau level (either below or above the previous normal level) before beginning another cycle of increased severity, frequency, and scale, often reaching another new record level and then, once again, falling back down quickly to near-normal levels.

This three-phased cyclical steep up, quick down, and back to the near previous normal pattern will prevent many individuals from seeing climate change's long-term patterns and trends. This climate consequence pattern ignorance will make individuals and businesses vulnerable to the next sporadic intensifying cycle of climate change-driven catastrophes.

In part, the most common climate change-driven extreme weather consequences are defined as heatwaves, heat domes, droughts, wildfires, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados, floods and flooding, rain bombs, wind storms [Derechos], dust storms, wildfire smoke events, unseasonable cold spells, and other abnormal unseasonal weather. But those are only a few of the many climate change consequences we will soon be experiencing at intensifying levels.

If you begin to think about climate change consequences occurring in the pattern of more frequent, more severe, and larger-scaled sporadic "waves" that eventually affect and break down the normal patterns of our lives, you would have a good idea about how climate change consequences will unfold this year and over the following decades. Do not panic or worry if a climate change consequence spikes to a new record, like soaring land or sea temperatures for a week, a month, or even a season. It will eventually drop to near its normal range, but that is only a tiny part of the climate consequence problem.

The real problem, which is invisible to most people, will be that almost all climate change consequences will continue to sporadically increase in severity, frequency, and scale season-by-season, year-by-year, and decade-by-decade:

    1. From now until 2025, on average, most climate change consequences will increase in intensity at a significantly accelerated rate.

    2. From 2025-2031, on average, the intensity of most climate change consequences will increase dramatically. There will be a dramatic increase in serious global climate catastrophes.

    3. From 2031-2050, on average, the intensity of many of the worst climate change consequences will increase near-exponentially. Many serious global climate catastrophes will occur regularly, making it very difficult to stay up with all the waves of damage and losses.

The good news is that by understanding how climate change will unfold in sporadic intensifying waves over the following decades, you will have time to prepare, adapt, and hopefully help change the dangerous direction of the world's accelerating climate change consequences.

Use the above graphic to imagine how climate change consequences will unfold. The green bars represent how new records will be broken over time (left to right). The blue bars represent how after each new broken climate change consequence record, that consequence will drop back steeply and quickly to plateau at near-normal levels and stay that way for a while. But unfortunately, even the normal plateau levels of many consequences will also continue to increase gradually over time.

Can climate change consequences worldwide suddenly get far worse than they are now? (B,2)

The only very scary thing that can change the above-described cyclical, more gradual climate change consequence escalation pattern is humanity crossing major climate tipping points or major climate feedback loops, as we are doing now. Crossing these two things separately or together will cause global climate change consequences to accelerate dramatically and then exponentially.

Please see the graph below to understand what we mean by saying that almost all climate change consequences will first rise dramatically and then exponentially after crossing tipping points. This illustration shows not only the gross failure of your governments to regulate and protect you from the accelerating consequences of climate change caused by burning more and more fossil fuel, but it also illustrates how the acceleration of climate change consequences after tipping points are crossed will directly follow and parallel the steep rise of the three major greenhouse gases polluting our atmosphere.

The graph below shows the three major fossil fuel-related greenhouse gases, carbon (CO2), methane (CH4), and Nitrous Oxide (N2O). The numbers at the bottom of the illustration are dates in history AD.  PPB is parts per billion. PPM is parts per million. (The IPCC is the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. AR6 is the IPCC's climate summary report. NOAA is the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.) As you can see below, we are walking into a very dangerous climate change consequence future.

What do you mean when you say that climate change and Global warming could soon be rising exponentially?

Something important to remember is that as we cross more and more global warming tipping points, the more global warming consequences will increase faster and faster. They will not grow gradually and linearly. They will grow exponentially over time. (In the graph below, the red line is an example of a linear gradual growth trajectory.  (Linear progression equals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc.)

The green line is an example of an exponential growth curve and trajectory. (Exponential progression equals 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 264, etc.)

An exponential growth of global warming consequences after we cross the four extinction level tipping points also means that few people or governments will be able to stay up with managing the damages from these escalating consequences for very long. It also means that unless you have made emergency preparations and adaptations and/or have migrated (where necessary) well before these four extinction-level tipping points are crossed, you will probably not have the time to do so later as things get worse faster and faster.

This is because the social, economic, and political systems will become more and more unstable and chaotic faster and faster as crossing more global warming tipping points pushes us into a steeper and steeper exponential curve (the green line above) of climate change consequences increasing severity, frequency, and scale. This means that if you have not prepared well in advance for what is coming, you will find yourself in a living hell!

It would also help to see future exponentially increasing climate change consequences in their proper time frames. Right now, climate change consequences are rising in a steady but steepening linear-like line (the red line above.) From about 2025 to about 2031, climate change consequences will get dramatically worse and dramatically increase the slope of the red line example.

From about 2030 to 2040, you will see the beginnings of the green line exponential growth in our climate change consequences. From about 2050 to 2070, climate change consequences will be nearing the steepest exponential level of the green lines rising curve.

Are individual adaptation actions like reducing fossil fuel use essential to save as much of humanity as possible? (I, 2)

It is imperative to know that your ongoing individual adaptation actions in reducing your fossil fuel use are essential to save as much of humanity as possible. In many areas of our website, we have emphasized our government's critical first and primary role as being the most effective and required tool to enforce the 2025 global fossil fuel reductions. While that is a proper priority essential for saving half of humanity by 2050, there is also an essential role for the ongoing growing individual-driven fossil fuel reductions that are not part of our government's critical climate action path, which you see many environmental organizations promoting.

While individual fossil fuel reductions by hundreds of millions of us are presently too little and too late to save about half of humanity before about 2050, there are still two powerful reasons to start reducing your personal or business fossil fuel use and completing the other adaptation actions described below:

    a. They will help determine what remaining percentage of humanity survives after 2050. After humanity has hit the climate change catastrophe "rock bottom" described here, the total net result of our steadily accumulating individual fossil fuel reduction actions could make the difference of as much as 30% of humanity surviving after 2050. If individual fossil fuel reduction actions do not continue to grow and grow significantly, as few as five percent or less of humanity may survive until about 2070.

    b. They will keep you living longer and far more comfortably as you move to low or non-fossil fuel systems as you complete the many other adaptation actions on this page. Also, the adaptation actions on this page will directly help you manage food supplies and other needed resources as resource scarcity increases as climate change worsens.

The above survival percentages underscore just how important your role in individual fossil fuel reduction is to the future. (If you are wondering why only thirty percent to as little as one or two percent of the population survives post-2050, and you are brave, click here and read about the nightmare we enter if we fail to get close to the 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets. What is the best way that I can reduce climate change as an individual? The answer to this is simple, but it does take a bit to explain the best way for you as an individual to do this. (B, 1)

As a non-profit educational climate think tank, we provide unpoliticized, uncensored, and accurate climate research information and analysis. We are not information marketing people, in-the-street climate protestors, activists, or for-profit business managers. We are climate researchers, analysts, and educators only.

Our limited climate research and analysis role means that ALL website visitors, members, and volunteers must individually share the climate information and analysis on our website for us! Furthermore, individual word-of-mouth sharing is the best way to spread uncensored climate change information most effectively in current conditions.

If you do not share our uncensored climate change information one-on-one and by word-of-mouth, it will not reach enough people to make a difference before it is too late! This personal word of mouth one on one sharing is critical because the global fossil fuel cartel has successfully manipulated and distorted the climate news you hear in the media and from your governments. Few will know the climate truth if we do not bypass the massive fossil fuel cartel-generated disinformation campaigns by going old-school, low-technology, and using the incredibly effective one on one word-of-mouth strategy.

There is no way the global fossil fuel cartel has the tools to keep you from speaking to others about the uncensored climate change truth. And, in a way, when you do this, you will be single-handedly defeating the mighty global fossil fuel cartel and their billions spent on climate disinformation. (If you are wondering why we are singling out the global fossil fuel cartel for their destructive actions creating and continuing the climate change nightmare, click here.)

Actively and aggressively share and spread the uncensored climate information and analysis found on our website and, where appropriate, become climate activists helping us to create honest climate solutions.

We cannot fix the runaway global heating emergency in time to save humanity without lots of intelligent and motivated volunteer climate activists helping us to educate the world. You and your talents are more critical than ever to the future survival of humanity!

Humanity will not survive the climate emergency without everyone who understands the real climate threat and emergency doing their educational part!

Here are tips on what to talk about one on one:

    1. Use our short "elevator pitch." An elevator pitch is a Silicon Valley-originated term. It is a short 2-3 minute statement about what is essential about something you should be involved in. It can be delivered in about the same time it would take for you to share an elevator with someone in a tall building, hence the elevator pitch. It is designed to capture attention with a critical mystery so the person will eventually want to know more.

You can contact others using our quick and simple climate change "elevator pitch" found in blue. Start short 2-3 minute conversations with friends, neighbors, work associates, and strangers. This elevator pitch lets them know how severe and serious the current climate emergency is.

    2. Continue one on one word-of-mouth conversations with friends, neighbors, work associates, and strangers and let them know the many wondrous benefits of fixing climate change that they, the society, and the world will receive when we control the global climate change emergency. If you have not done so already, click here to read about the many benefits of global heating and climate change. This benefits page is the most read page of our website, with over 2 million visits.

Here are some tips on who you should contact first:

    a. Individuals of above-average intelligence who already know the climate change emergency is real.

    b. Individuals who may have already been adversely affected financially or otherwise by accelerating climate change consequences. (Here are the kinds of issues that are now painfully real to them because of losses of time or resources; heatwaves, heat domes, droughts, wildfires, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados, floods and flooding, rain bombs, wind storms [Derechos], dust storms, wildfire smoke events, unseasonable cold spells, and other abnormal unseasonal weather.

    c. Prudent, mentally strong, and mature individuals you know who intentionally and consciously plan their future over the next one to five years or longer. These are the same kind of individuals who buy insurance, create college funds for their children while their children are young, and take reasonable precautions in their daily activities. These prudent individuals will take the time to read about a serious potential threat that could significantly disrupt their lives and children's futures.

    d. Individuals you know whose lives already seem stable, running well, and not being battered by one personal or business disaster after another.

    e. Progressive-leaning preppers. They are survivalists who are already preparing themselves, their families, and their businesses for the hard times ahead.

Here are some tips on who you should NOT contact for success:

Do not waste your valuable time and efforts trying to educate or convince the following types of individuals:

    a. climate deniers, climate trolls, and individuals without open minds. (Those continually denying the truth of escalating climate change consequences will eventually meet their best and most reliable teacher. This teacher will not be you but the ultimate, certain, and unyielding disciplinarian of Reality itself. Reality always exacts its painful and costly consequences upon those who continue to ignore its feedback, laws, and lessons.)

    b. those who do not or will not invest the time to carefully read the science or have the time to think deeply about what they have read.

    c. those whose lives are in constant chaos and who are too distracted to do anything but cope with the endless problems that they face daily. They have no undistracted time and energy to deal with something so large and upsetting.

    d. those who are mentally unstable or highly anxious and stressed out. The uncensored truth about our climate change emergency is so upsetting that these individuals should be bypassed at this time because it would make their lives that much more difficult knowing what is on our website when they are completely emotionally or psychologically unequipped to deal with it.

    d. those with a hidden (or transparent) vested financial interest in the profits of the fossil fuel industry or fossil fuel economy. Never waste time on anyone whose job depends upon or profits from the fossil fuel industry continuing as it is. Mark Twain, the famous US humorist, says this far better than we do. "It's hard to teach a person something whose job depends upon not knowing it."

    e. Do not give this information to children and young teens under 16 without an adult or parent modifying it so they can still be children, have a happy future, and not fear adult matters they can do little to fix. Climate change is a serious and often upsetting adult problem; please keep it that way.

    f. those who do not have the intellectual sharpness to grasp even the easier ideas of the vast complexity of the climate system and its subsystems. (The average IQ of individuals in the world today is 100.) Unfortunately, understanding the complex and multifaceted science of the climate change emergency is significantly beyond those with 100 IQs or lower. Understanding the climate emergency's true threat level requires above-average intelligence.

Do you have any advice or restrictions for sharing your materials with minors, both under 13 and from 13 -16 years old?

Our educational materials are not meant for any adolescents under 13 years old because of their severe and adult nature. Please allow children under 13 to be children, and do not force them to deal with such an upsetting adult matter they have virtually no power to change.

If your audience is 13-16 years old, do not focus on the consequences of the worst effects of the coming climate change. Let them have a happier and more carefree life that all younger individuals should enjoy. Be responsible in your educational efforts. There have been suicides by young people who heard the worst news about climate change, felt hopeless, and took their own lives.

With children 13-16, always focus on hope, and we still have time to work together, prepare, and fix climate change. Be sure to also focus on the many benefits humanity will experience on this page as we progress in resolving the climate change nightmare.

What kind of individuals do best in the ClimateSafe Village models?

ClimateSafe Villages is about cooperative people who create solutions in difficult situations. They are also reciprocators. They do not come only or primarily to take, receive, or be helped. They come to give and share knowledge, experience, and skills. They come to assist others while assisting themselves and being assisted.

Without finding and focusing on individuals with reciprocating natures, building the worldwide ClimateSafe Villages would be impossible to create before climate change consequences make things too unstable. If you are a natural reciprocator with a collaborative and cooperative nature, you will love Climatesafe villages and feel at home with others of a similar nature.

    Who Owns ClimateSafe Villages?

ClimateSafe Villages is a nonprofit organization. It has no stock and is not owned by any member or executive of the organization. ClimateSafe Villages is also not the project of any single individual or group. A single individual or group could never achieve it.

It is an open-source vision and project that is the goal and the creation of every prudent individual who protects themselves, their families, their communities, our unique and critical biological systems, our world, and the best of our diverse cultures and civilization. Everyone who does show up is helping to protect themselves and our future from the climate change emergency and the worsening of most of the world's other 11 serious global crises.

ClimateSafe Villarge is not "our" project or someone else's project. It is your project if you see its merits and choose to join with others of similar mind and spirit.

Why is everything free and open source on your website except the member's section?

Even though our organization is all volunteer with no paid staff and has been that way for years, we still have to pay rent for our offices, Internet charges, phone, and everyday business expenses that any business would incur. Sometimes we have to hire specialty consultants with the knowledge that no volunteer in our team has. For example, when we have to fend off hacking attempts for certain upgrades on our website, we have to hire a server security specialist.

Additionally, the information in the members-only section is information we had to spend a lot of money to obtain. It is extremely valuable migration and financial information that a standard risk assessment firm would charge businesses thousands of dollars a year to access.

We do not do that. We have a reasonable tax-deductible donation level to become a member. We even have a scholarship program for those individuals worldwide who live at the poverty level and cannot donate.

And finally, we want to serve and collaborate with reciprocal and mature individuals who know they need to support the community helping them and others. When you donate to our nonprofit organization, you also tell us that you appreciate and value what we're doing and want to help us get our uncensored and valuable climate change-related information to as many people as possible.

Here is Job One other information you requested that will be helpful.

    1. Our climate research and analysis methodology: https://www.joboneforhumanity.org/history_job_one_for_humanity_plan
    3. How to challenge the science on any climate change statement on our website: https://www.joboneforhumanity.org/climate_change_analysis_challenge
    5. Advice we give on sharing climate change information:

Here are some tips on who you should contact first and share our climate change information:

    a. Individuals of above-average intelligence who already know the climate change emergency is real and may have already been affected financially or otherwise.

    b. Prudent, mentally strong, and mature individuals you know who plan their future over the next 1 to 5 years or longer. These are the same kind of individuals who buy insurance, create college funds for their children while they are young, and take reasonable precautions in their daily activities. These prudent individuals will take the time to read about a serious potential threat that could significantly disrupt their lives and futures.

    c. Individuals you know whose lives seem stable, running well, and not being battered by one personal or business disaster after another.

Here are some tips on who not to contact and waste your time:

Do not waste your valuable time and effort trying to educate or convince certain types of individuals:

    a. climate deniers, climate trolls, individuals without open minds, or those with a hidden (or transparent) vested financial interest in the profits of the fossil fuel industry or fossil fuel economy,

    b. those who do not or will not invest the time to carefully read the science or have the time to think deeply about what they have read, whose lives are in constant chaos, and who are too distracted to do anything but cope with the endless problems that are facing them on a day-to-day basis. They have no undistracted time and energy to deal with something so large and upsetting.

    c. Those who are mentally unstable or highly anxious and stressed out. The truth about our climate change emergency is so upsetting that these individuals should be bypassed at this time because it would make their lives that much more difficult knowing what is on our website.

    d. Anyone whose job depends upon or profits from the fossil fuel industry continuing as it is. Mark Twain, the famous US humorist, says this far better than we do. "It's hard to teach a person something whose job depends upon not knowing it."

    e. Do not give this information to children and young teens under 16 without an adult modifying it so they can still be children, have a happy future, and not fear adult matters they can do little to fix. This is an adult problem; please keep it that way.

    f. those who do not have the intellectual sharpness to grasp even the central easier ideas of the vast complexity of the climate system and its subsystems. (The average IQ of individuals in the world today is 100.) Unfortunately, the true complexity of the climate change emergency is significantly beyond those with 100 IQs or lower. Understanding the climate emergency's true threat level requires an above-average IQ.

The Job One for Humanity nonprofit organization is not here to convince people in one-on-one online or offline debates that we are in a runaway global heating extinction emergency! Instead, we provide honest climate data and analysis on our website, allowing individuals to read and think about that information privately and carefully in the comfort of their homes. Once they have done so, reasonable individuals will make their own decisions about the dangers and reality of the runaway global heating emergency.

There is no time left to waste on individuals or organizations that will only suck up immeasurable amounts of your time and deny climate realities or do nothing. The individuals mentioned above seldom, if ever, change their minds about the runaway global heating emergency. In fact, if they can't figure out the right climate facts by quietly reading and evaluating our extensive website information, it is not likely that any amount of educating or convincing that you do will ever make any difference whatsoever.

After 12 years of dealing with such individuals, we have found that the best policy is to simply ignore them and not try to involve them. We discovered that almost all of them have never even read much climate science or the information on our website. They simply hold onto their prior climate opinions before engaging with us, no matter what climate science we send them to read and evaluate for themselves.

We have also discovered that some of these kinds of individuals will nearly completely ignore discussing substantive climate science or its details and merits in the posting or article. Instead, they will focus most of their negative comments or wild and unfounded attacks on the individual posting or responding personality.

We also do not spend additional time educating another type of individual We do not waste time with any individuals who psychologically or emotionally are incapable of accepting any idea that humanity could soon go near-totally extinct because of the well-documented consequences of rising runaway global heating.

This runaway global heating extinction idea creates so much psychological and emotional stress within them that accepting the possibility that runaway global heating extinction could be real would emotionally or psychologically seriously destabilize them and their lives so much that they must reject the concept of runaway global heating-driven extinction at all costs! They will suffer the pain and tension of unreconcilable cognitive dissonance if they do not reject the reality of a possible or coming runaway global heating extinction. Do not engage with this kind of individual for their health and well-being should you meet them.

And finally, the biggest underlying reason we ask our volunteers and team members not to spend time educating or convincing the individuals named above is that we are honestly almost out of time to prevent a runaway global heating-driven extinction. We do not have enough time left to spend on some types of individuals when we could and should be working with those individuals who are ready and have the mental bandwidth, and I've already done some deep thinking about the issue.

But, the good news here is that there are many reasons, open, intelligent, internally secure, and mature enough individuals who are willing to read, think for themselves, and then decide upon the merits of the climate facts they have discovered, no matter how bad those facts might be.

Spend your time with them, and we have a chance to save up to 50% of humanity. We are in the 11th hour. At best, we have another 3-9 years (from 2025-2031) to prevent a near-total human extinction event.

Never forget that Job One for Humanity is racing to put out a REAL fire. As the Job One for Humanity fire engine rolls by, some will not like its color, and others will say the siren is too loud or the fire engine is going too fast. When racing to a real fire and emergency, you certainly don't stop dealing with such things of far lesser importance; you continue racing to your destination and extinguish the fire.

ClimateSafe Villages FAQ of Frequently Asked Questions

    Last updated 3.29.23

Welcome to the original CSV master model and FAQ for everything you ever would want to know about ClimateSafe Villages (CSV), the climate-resilient eco-communities of the future. Of course, the ongoing discussion forums at CSV will continue to add to the factors found in our 6-page CSV master model.

Welcome to the frequently asked questions (FAQ) for all four models of the ClimateSafe Villages (CSV). (If you have any questions about climate change, click this climate change FAQ link for those kinds of answers.)

For general questions about ClimateSafe Villages, click here to the guide table of contents page for all topic sections in our online 6-page ClimateSafe Village Overview Guide. It will lead you to the answers to many questions not covered in the additional ClimateSave Villages FAQ below.

Our ClimateSafe Villages (CSV) Questions and Answers FAQ

Welcome to the ClimateSafe Villages FAQs. Because joining such a “village” would be a major life commitment, many people will have many different types of questions. Over time, this website section will expand and evolve and attempt to collect most of those questions.

Because there will be so many questions, they are divided into topics. When you see a topic in which you are interested, click that link, and it will take you to a list of questions relating to that topic. (To find the appropriate topic, you can also skim through or use the cmd-F [Mac key] or ctl-F [PC key]).

Here are the currently available ClimateSafe Villages TOPICS: (This FAQ is still under construction. but it has many answers.)

If you do not see an answer to your ClimateSafe Village question in our FAQ, email your query to ([email protected]). Put ClimateSafe Village Question in the subject line.

    • What questions should I ask when considering joining a ClimateSafe Village (CSV) model or location?
    • Reproductive freedom
    • Who is the audience for the JobOne website?
    • Who is the audience for the ClimateSafe Villages?

    • Who is the driving force behind the ClimateSafe Villages movement and the growth of new ClimateSafe Villages?
    • How long does it take to become climate change resilient in an urban or rural community?
    • CSV is not-for-profit. It does not get involved in for-profit investment schemes. It warns members against using other CSV members for personal profit. But Why?
    • Survival of the most cooperative versus survival of the fittest.

What questions should I ask when considering joining a ClimateSafe Village model or location?

The Bellingham, Washington, new CSV headquarters member application process found here is particularly applicable to use in reverse to help you determine if you want to join a specific ClimateSafe Village or any eco-community. Before joining any CSV model anywhere in the world, we strongly recommend you use the applicable member application questions found here to interview the lead coordinator and leader(s) of that community to find out how well and how much they have screened their current members for potential problems or issues. The quality of individuals living cooperatively in any community will be a major factor in that community's long-term survival.

You could also use the CSV frequently asked questions list or the critical topics in our online guide table of contents to ask how that village will or is handling the issues you are most concerned about because every village is slightly different in how it runs itself. It may or may not follow some of the values, principles, and actions of the Bellingham headquarters CSV.

It is entirely in your hands to do your own complete, detailed, and proper due diligence when investigating any CSV model or community location as a possible place to join or relocate. Treat this evaluation process as one of the most important decisions you will ever make because as climate change and other factors worsen, it may well be.

An area of questioning you also will want to pursue is understanding the current resource level and or reserves of any community in relationship to what its plans are for the future and its promises of what it wants to deliver to its members.

If you find the key people in any community are unwilling to answer your questions openly and transparently, that is not a good sign. There is an old proverb that particularly stands true when it comes to investigating any new community you are thinking about joining during the climate change emergency. "True sincerity, never minds scrutiny."

    Reproductive freedom

The concept of “reproductive freedom” is important. It is the goal of all ClimateSafe Villages to honor reproductive freedom for all. This covers a lot of concerns, but women should never be forced to have children at any age. The decision of a woman to have an abortion is considered a citizen’s right. HOWEVER, because the population collapse is coming, and “overpopulation” is acknowledged to be a major cause, the concept of “reproductive freedom” isn’t so simple. In fact, the approach that our new vision of Personalized Democracy suggests is that every community would establish a “community size goal”. This is NOT “the collective view of the community.” It is essentially a scientific “climate footprint” calculation. The community must come to an agreement on how that goal is to be achieved that respects the 10 Principles of Personalized Democracy. For example, setting a “rule” of “2 children per family” is much too simplistic. For example, if one couple chooses to have zero children, another might have 4. This is decided through a major analytical process of the entire community.

Who is the audience for the JobOne website?

Our website was not intended or designed for individuals under 13 years old. We believe that the grave nature of some of the climate change extinction emergency information on our website is not suitable for children under 13 years old. We believe that children under 13 should not have to deal with “extinction-level” climate change issues. This adult and young adult information would only disturb the peace and happiness normal and natural to their childhood with no obvious benefits. That said, read the question related to climate education.

Who is the audience for the ClimateSafe Villages?

The program does not discriminate against anyone based on race, age, sex, sexuality, income, financial-worth, profession, handicaps, or educational status. While the general criteria will be attractive to intellectuals and those with higher educational levels. The entry requirements are primarily the ability to understand and live up to the provisions of each community’s social contract, and physical environment.

Handicapped or disabled people, for example, will not be refused access, as long as they have the finances to support any equipment then need and can live comfortably with the medical facilities the community has access to.

In addition to the above, our main ClimateSafe Villages audience are individuals who:

    1. Know climate change is real.

    2. Know climate change is far worse than our governments and the media are telling us.

    3. Want to protect their families and businesses from the many escalating climate change consequences until our governments finally fix climate change.

    5. Want to do something to stop climate change from getting worse within their zones of control ad resources.

Will ClimateSafe Villages be completely self-sufficient?

No. It is impossible, especially over periods longer than a 6-12 months. They will be designed for shorter to medium term resilience, and minimum reliance on external support, but will also strive for a higher than “subsistence” quality of life that can’t be self-sustained by any community indefinitely without some external support.

For example, contact with the outside world would not be stopped. That means, access to modern communications. Most people, of any age, will be subject to medical problems which require pharmaceuticals from pain relievers (Tylenol) to heart medications (Lisinopril). The community could never produce those. Even just addressing food, any “reasonable” spice cabinet cannot be maintained without outside replenishment. Coffee and tea, for example, don’t grow well in aquaponics for northern hemisphere conditions. Producing salt is too difficult for most locations.

Communications are first encouraged with other ClimateSafe Villages through the Internet. But eventually, all replenishment channels will be needed.

How should ClimateSafe Villages deal with rival organizations who try to adopt our model?

We will support them! The ClimateSafe Villages program is NOT a competitive program. It is being done to “SURVIVE” the coming climate change-driven catastrophic collapse of the human population and global civilization. Anyone who adopts our model is helping everyone, including us.

Do you have a discussion forum exclusively for CSV?

We now have setup a forum communication and project tool called BaseCamp. It is open to individuals actively helping to create this CSV community model. It is now available.  Email [email protected] for access to this private forum.

Do we see ourselves as trying to create a utopia?

There are critical semantic advantages in avoiding using the term utopia when discussing the CSV Vision. The word utopia is linked to a long historical chain of failures by individuals trying to create a utopia. There's hardly a discussion about utopias without it being followed by a discussion of how they failed.

The farther we stay away from referring to ourselves as building a Utopia, the better and more honest we will be in the sense of being realistic, practical, and having a good understanding of the term's history.

The original CSV vision was never seeking utopia-like perfection, but only to create a truly cooperative community with high levels of evolutionary preparedness, adaptability, and resilience to survive better the challenging and ever-changing conditions in front of us.

Additionally, CSVs are not trying to create a utopia, but we are doing something urgently needed.

While we do not see ourselves working to create a rigid utopia-like structure, nor do we use utopia language, many of us do see ourselves as experimenting visionaries, aka Evolutioneers.

In addition to our goals of building climate resilience through preparation and adaptation and ending the climate emergency through promoting immediate government climate action, CSVs have other potential goals besides promoting their members' long-term safety, security, and overall well-being.

Some CSVs, like the new CSV Bellingham headquarters, will, by member choice, also be working on discovering and testing new possibilities for better models for our social, economic, political, and religious systems and interactions. They will be engaged in designing, testing, and proving new evolutionary iterations for those systems.

They will do this so that after the widespread global collapse driven by the primary and secondary consequences of climate change, there will be better solutions and proven examples available for future generations. We believe that because of the horrendous shared post global collapse trauma, new generations will be more open to new solutions for sustainably living together.

The preceding means that individuals participating in CSVs are far more than survivalists or progressive preppers with a detailed knowledge of climate change consequence timeframes. They also can be by choice, future activists and Evolutioneers working to create a more sustainable, just, and equitable future for ALL of humanity despite, the worsening global crises we all now face.

Who is the driving force behind the ClimateSafe Villages movement and the growth of new ClimateSafe Villages?

It is you. It is not the CSV staff, team members, or volunteers! And, it will always be you.

Please do not wait for anyone else to lead you in getting what you need to be done to protect yourself, your family, and your business, as we are a leaderless movement. All we have is willing and wise collaborators and cooperators sharing knowledge and efforts.

If you want to get something done on creating a ClimateSafe Village or preparing for what is coming, do it! You never need anyone's permission to do good in the world.

Be the lead coordinator and let other cooperators gather around you with similar circumstances and interests.

While there is no need to panic, we are running out of time before we cross critical climate change tipping points (from 2025-2031.) Things will get much worse during that 2025-2031 period, far faster than they can be prepared for or adapted to. Additionally, once things get far worse and many more people finally recognize we are in an accelerating climate change emergency, many of the critical supplies you will desperately need will be unavailable or unaffordable.

All this only means what it has always meant in every area of your life.

You are the driving force behind the ClimateSafe Villages movement and the growth of new ClimateSafe Villages.

Please select and start your first CSV-related project. Other wise collaborators with similar circumstances and interests are already looking for you.

How long does it take to become climate change resilient in an urban or rural CSV community?

In general, if you are working part-time on the necessary emergency preparations and adaptations (described on this preparation page and this adaptation page), it will take 2 to 3 years to make your home or business in an urban CSV climate change-resilient. If you are building a rural CSV, you could easily be looking at 3 to 5 years.

If you do it full-time, it will be quicker. Many things, like using permaculture to build high-quality food-growing soil, will still take several years to complete.

Construction companies are extremely busy dealing with the housing shortage and repairing climate change damage. Many of them will put you on a waiting list for up to six months or even a year or longer before they even start your remodeling, upgrading, or construction project.

What these additional long build-out times mean is that there is a real urgency to get started on your emergency preparations and adaptations today because after we cross critical climate change tipping points from 2025-2031, things will get much worse very fast. They also will continue to worsen from 203o to about 2050, which also means emergency and adaptation supplies will steadily be harder to get. And their costs will continually rise far faster than other commodities.

One last qualifying factor, how long you will be able to stay in any CSV model, will always and ultimately be determined by your location, location location. "Location IS destiny," as Napoleon said.
You can temporarily make your home, business, or urban CSV more climate change resilient to survive longer as things get worse, but there will be a point if you are in a very high-risk area, like Phoenix, Arizona; eventually, the primary and secondary climate change consequences will become so dire you will have to migrate to survive. Please do not neglect to consider your current location or whether it is a larger urban area in planning for how much time you have left to become climate change resilient or to move to a new place and become climate change resilient there.

This time-sensitive issue does not mean you should ever panic. You have adequate preparation and adaptation time before the worst consequences occur. This time-sensitive issue only means get busy today while you also "Keep calm and carry on."

CSV is not-for-profit. It does not get involved in for-profit investment schemes. It warns members against using other CSV members for personal profit. But Why?

We are facing many challenges in building healthy, sustainable communities that can make it through the hardships of the climate emergency and other likely stressors. For a community to survive what is in front of us, there must be trust and cooperation.
Profit and investment schemes proposed by individuals within or new to the community using other members for potential personal profit are not conducive to long-term community trust building and cooperation. Additionally, Investment schemes often fail and are notorious for ethical problems in many cases.

These often failed outcomes produce many conflicts. Using other members for personal profiteering in investing or developing a CSV could also eventually produce hard feelings.
Anything that ClimateSafe Village does financially is exclusively for the community's and its members' well-being. Its financial records are 100% transparent and available for inspection by any member. Any profit a CSV community might make collectively as a CSV is 100% controlled and managed by the members for the exclusive benefit of the members and not for the exclusive financial benefit of any individual member.
Yes, we will soon have paid staff working for the community's benefit. Staff salaries will be transparent and at market value for all to see.
We also have developed policies to ensure that anything the group provides or allocates financially goes exclusively for the community's well-being. Here are just two policies to help ensure the community is always working for the community's good.
    • The community provides full administrative transparency for all legal and other administrative records (except for personnel file sections, which we have agreed to keep confidential.)
    • Because finances are an area where many communities run into trouble, we provide administrative transparency for all community financial records and maintain a three-person signoff and approval system for all disbursements or purchases over an amount agreed to by the community. This three-person signoff finance integrity system will go a long way to help prevent incorrect, incomplete, or inaccurate community financial records and other types of mistakes, fraud, or embezzlement.
Trying to profit on other members in the crisis we are in is never appropriate in our organization. This also means:
    1. Do not buy extra land to sell to other members at a profit.
    2. Do not use shared community resources for exclusive personal profit.
    3. Do not use our name in any way if you are developing a seperate community by offering investments, selling, or leasing the land parcels at a profit.
You can develop any community you want. Science supports creating many community experiments. These multiple experimental communities best guarantee that some community mutations will survive.
You are always free to use any information you find on our website to help build your for-profit seperate community because:
    a. we are trying to create a new model that will be shared and experimented upon widely.
    b. it is the right thing to do in the escalating climate emergency, and
    c. we want something of humanity to survive and inherit a better world.
If we find out you are promoting some for-profit investment scheme or for-profit land buy-in, etc, on any of our websites or forums, we will ask you to stop immediately. We will link you to this policy and notify our members that your actions are not the CSV vision.

We will inform them that it violates our community-building principle, "that to maintain the essential cooperation and trust our community and its members never seek to profit personally from other members if it involves community property, actions or transactions.
This personal profit financial policy does not inhibit any group of individuals from getting together and creating a homeowners association, an Agrihood, a co-op, or a limited liability corporation to collectively buy land and build a community as long as every legal and financial transaction is 100% transparent to every member. Additionally, no member of that group, no matter how much they're contributing, can seek or obtain an individual profit amount in any transaction that is a different amount from any other member.
There's another important reason we want you to refrain from using other members as profit centers. Many of the biggest problems we face today are because of our "always more, endless growth" profit-driven economic systems that create excess wealth, extreme poverty, and other financial or market distortions that destroy our environment.
CSVs will have to find a better economic system based on fair exchange that also honors the well-being of the community and the environment while simultaneously caring for the well-being of every individual community member. That is not what is happening in the world today.
If we get involved with members making profits on other members by selling them land, selling them investment schemes to buy land, or using community land for individual profiteering, we are continuing the same economic systems that are so out of balance. There has to be some community level of function that is only driven by community well-being and not personal profit!
In conclusion, you have every right to create any community you want. There are organizations out there that are already trying to develop climate-resilient communities as real estate developers. They are working to make a profit, and everybody knows it, but that is not what we are.
In the long run, our CSV survivability will depend upon the trust, cooperation, and healthy and balanced values we build.
If you have a different community vision and want to build your community vision on private profit, we sincerely wish you well in your endeavor. We absolutely need lots of climate-resilient communities existing worldwide if humanity is going to survive, thrive, and create a better world from mistakes and the lessons learned.

Finally, because of US nonprofit regulations, you may not use our BaseCamp team-building group software to propose or create a for-profit climate-resilient community. You also may not use our forum to recruit people into your for-profit venture. In the US, nonprofit regulations are very strict. Nonprofit resources cannot be used for for-profit ventures unless those for-profit ventures are set up with separate bookkeeping or as seperate legal entities by the nonprofit itself. Then, the nonprofit itself must file a tax return and pay taxes on those for-profit operations.

These strict US nonprofit laws mean that if we discover you are promoting for-profit investments, products, etc., for your personal profit on our website or in our forms, we will have to remove that content permanently, and if the for-profit activities are repeated, we will have to block any individual doing so.

As mentioned above, because of US nonprofit regulations, we are literally forced to police our website and forum to ensure its resources are not being used for for-profit operations. If you think about it, that's why they call nonprofits, nonprofits.

Survival of the most cooperative vs survival of the fittest

One of the things that's least understood about the CSV vision, notably the Bellingham headquarters, is that the more accurate evolutionary concept for long-term survival is "survival of the most cooperative and the most reciprocating."

Survival of the fittest is an old evolutionary perspective. While valid at a smaller scale, survival of the fittest has only limited applicability when facing widespread global climate change catastrophe and global collapse the CSV communities will face.

Recently, at Job One For Humanity, we had to do our annual update and forecast for future climate change conditions. We once again had to face the climate change emergency not being honestly addressed or fixed by our governments. We also had to face that once humanity had crossed the carbon 425 ppm threshold (which occurred on February 3, 2024), climate consequences would worsen dramatically and continue worsening.

This update forced us to re-examine certain assumptions that the projected Bellingham community (about 150 people to 500 people) would have enough community members to provide adequate security for at least 20 to 30 years. Based on Job One for Humanity's newest climate conditions and forecasts worsening faster than they had predicted, we no longer believe that 150-500 people is a large enough community to survive even the next 30 years, much less than 50 or more.

We now firmly believe that we must eventually create a greater Bellingham climate-resilient community of thousands of people to establish a more adequate, secure, and safe zone during the worst phases of the climate change emergency occurring 20-40 years from now. The Bellingham CSV must make it through the coming primary and secondary climate change consequences described here.

Making sure Bellingham expands into many local communities will be part of my (Lawrence Wollersheim's) long-term, top recruiting goals when I return to Bellingham with my wife. We will first establish the local rural CSV and then reach out to the many residents in the Bellingham area to join us. From there, we will continue reaching out to other surrounding communities, helping them become climate resilient.

The rural Bellingham community will and must be well integrated with the Bellingham urban and the greater Bellingham local communities. Over time, it will become heavily involved in helping the local Bellingham communities build all the necessary levels of climate resilience, including managing climate refugees and building surpluses. (Click here to see what building local community climate change resilience-building process looks like.)

The Bellingham leadership from the multiple organizations that will be headquartered there will focus on and provide a persistent driving force for continually expanding reciprocal cooperation and collaboration to greater and greater numbers of communities in the Bellingham area and never stop that process. Eventually, we must aim to encompass cooperation and collaboration on climate resiliency issues within the whole state of Washington.

The reason why Bellingham and other CSV communities must adopt this "survival of the most cooperative" procedure is that unless they create larger and larger circles of cooperation and reciprocality, no matter how well their smaller local community is prepared, it will not likely survive long-term (30 to 50+ years or more.)

This detailed description of what's coming is so powerful and intense that only having a large number of cooperating and collaborating individuals and communities who are highly climate resilient will give that area the highest probability of long-term survival. Single small communities will simply be unable to survive the continual onslaught of the many consequences described on this page.

When we first looked at the Bellingham location, we estimated that it could survive 20 or 30 years as a single, isolated, and well-prepared community. Afterward, we realized that only by taking our climate-resilient skill set out to cooperate and collaborate with more and more outside local communities could we build something that would last 30- 50 years and beyond.

With the cooperation, defensibility, and reciprocation that is possible with many communities or even a whole state-linked together to solve the challenges we will be facing, the probability and likelihood of the CSV community's long-term survival are increased exponentially beyond any isolated CSV community.

Suppose you're joining or creating a CSV community and want your group to survive 50 years or longer. In that case, you must ensure that you have a group of persistent, dedicated people inside that community dedicated to expanding cooperation, collaboration, and reciprocality with outside nearby communities to build mutual climate resilience and prepare for what's coming. Otherwise, no matter how isolated you are, sooner or later, your small community will be overrun or robbed, and you too will become a migrant yourself, whether it's to your second bug-out location or something else.

With the leadership of the various organizations to be headquartered there, the Bellingham CSV will have that survival-critical, complete dedication, understanding, and commitment to expanding climate resilience cooperation with more and more surrounding communities until, ideally, the whole state of Washington becomes the US's first climate resilient state. That is the type of perspective and action plan it will take to survive the unprecedented intensity of the many accelerating problems we now face.

One last thing: when we talk about cooperation and collaboration, we are talking about wise cooperation, which includes, at some point, reciprocality in some form. If you cooperate unwisely, you will be drained of all your resources and you will not survive well.

    Education

At what age do we start speaking about climate change to young children? They already practice gun drills.

Current society raises this question because they are too narrow minded and lazy to learn and understand its complexity. As with sex education, all “rational” and “science-based” programs for climate education are geared for each child’s age and personal maturity. That is, it has long been known that children get curious about climate issues in stages. So programs are carefully designed to provide only the material that is appropriate to adequately address a child’s questions. This is determined by asking the child questions. There are many resources on the website that provide rational adults all the information they need to answer any child’s questions. And they will have questions because the issues are all around them. In general, children under 13 should not be given the serious adult level facts of the climate change emergency.

    Effort Sharing

Is it possible for ClimateSafe Villages hubs to share labor?

ClimateSafe Villages are economic units in their own right.  Working out some kind of inter-community and community work or product exchange system is still in the developmental stages. (2023)

Can eco-communities support registered members in nearby cities or towns who are running their own local network in conjunction with local government

Absolutely. It is highly probable that the rural or surbaban communities Will develop local members who are not living in the eco-community compound./span>

    Property Sharing – material goods

Is property sharing common in a village?

To reduce expensive and unnecessary redundencies, sharing of material property between individuals is strongly encouraged. To facilitate this, each village should have a “property management group”. They would coordinate the effort using an “online” program. It would list all the items available, where the items currently are, and any notes related to their use. To show the range of such property, here are a few examples.

Distributed Library: Rather than a central “library” that is large enough for a huge book collection, the “village book collection” would be distributed to all member homes. An “online book catalog” tracks and shows the status of all village books.

Village trucks: A pickup truck sure comes in handy for “odd jobs”. But, for many people, it is not used often enough to be affordable. The village would have specialized vehicles for “general use”. Unlike “rental car” businesses, a village member who expects a possible need for such a vehicle would register with the village program. That means, there is no need to go through all the paperwork every time the vehicle is used. It would be as easy to use a truck as it is to get a book.

Each village should also have a “maintenance center”. This is a centralized location that stores items not being “remotely stored”, or items brought in for repair. Village members, who are handy with repairs, can provide repair efforts, in return for village “credits”.

    External to the village

Sharing of material property between villages is encouraged. This is encouraged particularly for items that are very costly and not frequently used. An example might be an audio system for a major holiday party. This type of property would be coordinated just like the local use property by a working relationship between “property management groups” in each village.

    Real estate ownership

How is real estate managed in ClimateSafe Villages?

The answer is, each village would establish its own system based on the constraint of its size, location, and social structure.

For example, members in a “virtual village” manage housing on their own according to the customs of their location. Members in an “urban village” can manage real estate all the way from having “independent” dwellings to living in high-rise buildings owned collectively by the residents. Even in rural villages, ownership can vary from being totally independent to totally communal.

Spirituality and Religion within the ClimateSafe Villages

Can a ClimateSafe Village have a religious or spiritual group orientation?

Each separate ClimateSafe Village will have its own social structure. They may use or reject as many of our design recommendations as they feel fit or as are applicable to their local conditions. If they want to have some religious affiliation that is their choice. That being said, ClimateSafe Villages Bellingham in Bellingham Washington will be closely associated with the philosophy expressed at Universe Spirit

The important thing to realize here is that ClimateSafe Villages without deep philosophical or spiritual unity will not have the same level of resilience needed to make it through an increasing number of catastrophes. Religion or personal spirituality are a part of many individuals' lives who will be a part of our communities. Even though each ClimateSafe Villages will set its policies for how it will deal with its members' different religious and spiritual practices, we do have some suggestions and recommendations.

    1. Unfortunately, many beliefs and practices in today's religions harm or impede the creation of a sustainable, just, and equitable world for ALL. Therefore, self-selecting religious members within the four eco-community models should continually explore how to include the safe and healthy values and ideas of existing religions for their personal or eco-community use while also transcending the no longer applicable, unjust, or unworkable religious practices, values, and beliefs from humanity's vast spiritual heritage.

    2. Allow any individual of any religious denomination to join any model of our eco-communities. Likewise, any humanist, agnostic, or atheist may join the eco-community. But, if their current religious or spiritual behaviors and actions strongly conflict with the values of your eco-community model, it will not work out well. For example, if a potential member's religion is intolerant, authoritarian, or "is the only true religion" or requires them to recruit and preach to others aggressively, the four eco-community models will not be a good fit.

    3. While there are many dangers in forming an eco-community around a particular religious or spiritual belief system, there is one crucial benefit if the religious or spiritual belief system is healthy and non-coercive. As things get worse in the outside macro-culture, members within the eco-community will witness unthinkable suffering and death. A healthy faith can provide deep value roots that will give additional psychological and emotional resilience that will be dearly needed to survive.

    4. If an individual's spiritual practice is found on the third or fourth level defined by Fowler's Four Levels of Faith, they will most likely be very comfortable within our eco-community models. (Click here to learn about Fowler's third and fourth religious and spiritual development levels.)

    5. Educate every community member about actions of members or community managers that could harm individuals or the community by introducing or using these manipulative and harmful religious or spiritual practices within the community. We also proactivelyeducate our members about the long-established principles of healthy spiritual practices, which apply to all religions and spiritual practices.

    6. Small communities with religious or spiritual affiliations frequently adopt one or more destructive cultish behaviors. To safeguard against this, educate every community member about actions of members or community managers that could harm individuals or the community by having all members understand these fundamental tactics of destructive cults

    7. Furthermore, while the ClimateSafe Village models will protect an individual's right to have opinions and beliefs about anything, spiritual or otherwise and without interference, behaviors springing from those opinions or beliefs are entirely subject to community examination and limitation.

    e.

    Social Composition

Are relatives and friends allowed to visit communities or give notification and how long can they stay?

Yes of course visit providing they respect the community values while they are there. Each community will work out its own rules and processes for how this should happen./p>

    Social Practices

    Guns - individuals

Individuals will be allowed to own, possess, and use guns.

These functions must adhere to the “limitation” rules of the surrounding communities.

However, every gun must be declared for one or more specific uses and only used for those purposes. The uses allowed are: hunting, target shooting, work related purposes (i.e. security guards or police), and historical display. No form of modern “military assault weapon” is allowed All gun owners will be required to have taken a gun safety course and store their weapons under lock and key.

It is possible, as the outside world worsens, that communities may adopt additional gun management policies. But these would only be considered in “community” forms.

    Village Locations

What is the ClimateSafe Village position on safe village locations?

We provide the most accurate, and comprehensive scientific truth we have found.

No place on earth is completely 100% safe from the many consequences of accelerating climate change and global warming. But there are places that will be safer and safer longer from many of the global warming consequences. With our additional adaptation strategies to make these ClimateSafe Villages climate change safer, (high wind resistant, fire, flood, rain bomb resistant, and drought resistant, energy and water independent, etc.), thus more resilient and more sustainable, and they will be climate-safer places longer, but not climate-safe places.

Where are the better regions or places to set up ClimateSafe Villages.

This is covered in great detail in the Members-Only section of our website at Job one. There is a ton of material there far too much to include in the 6 page overview.

    Village Process Issues

    Registration Forms

Instead of just a loose email reply, would it not be better to have registration forms: One about expression of general interest. One about wanting to join an actual ClimateSafe Village as defined... and one about making donations in money or goods but NOT joining a community (they support the idea and are doing their own thing)….

To view the preliminary application forms for each of the four different models of ClimateSafe Villages (the urban variation, the rural variation, the hybrid variation, and the virtual variation,) click here and look at the very end of each description. To view the application forms for the ClimateSafe Villages Bellingham in Bellingham Washington, USA, click here.

    Funding Village formation

Each ClimateSafe Village creates and does its own funding as they are separate legal entities. Although Job One for Humanity is a rare volunteer only organization and we have no paid staff currently, at some point we realize we are going to have to use some of the funds we raise for ClimateSafe Villages to hire some critical staff to help create our closely connected ClimateSafe Villages worldwide network.)

    Publicity

Each ClimateSafe Village sets up and enlist a publicity group, videos, flyers, pamphlets, etc... or uses money to hire publicity people such as Fivver…

    Village Naming and branding Formats

Anyone can name their independent eco-communities anything they like. If your eco-community closely follows the ClimateSafe Villages guidelines and policies, you may (with our written permission) be able to use our name like this, ClimateSafe Villages Berlin, ClimateSafe Villages Melbourne, etc.

    Village Process History

    ClimateSafe Villages Bellingham

This is designed to be the premier or flagship eco-community for the ClimateSafe Villages project. The “lead coordinator” for the effort is Lawrence Wollersheim.

The ClimateSafe Villages Bellingham eco-community will also be the headquarters for ClimateSafe Villages, Job One, the Universe Institute, the Universe College and Universe Spirit. Click here for more information about the ClimateSafe Villages Bellingham Village.

There are individuals associated with those organizations and that essential work for the future who may move to the ClimateSafe Villages community because it includes those things and hopefully it will also become a leadership source for the other ClimateSafe Villages in the affiliation.

ClimateSafe Villages community – Social Contract

Here is the ClimateSafe Villages basic and evolving social contract.

What is the connection with Universe Spirit

Universe Spirit is the name of the other organization that has been contributing to the pre-ClimateSafe Villages eco-community project for years.

    Village Scope

Does the ClimateSafe Village project have society at large in mind or is it about those who are already tuned into climate matters by and large?

Our initial audience will be progressives who already understand or feel the need for such a climate change emergency aware community to exist because of worsening climate change and other global issues. Because of the shortness of preparation time we will only involve those with strong and aligned in motivation. Once the communities are established and running well each community can decide on its outreach actions to the larger community.

    Village Expansion

At some point we are going to reach out to the other 1200 intentional communities and 10,000 eco-villages around the world and either ask them for their input or offer our model for however they want to use it. If some small portion of humanity is going to survive, we need to encourage as many people as possible to set up these ClimateSafe Villages-like eco-communities either in close unity with us or as independent experiments using whatever they can for my models.

    The ClimateSafe Villages Roll-out process

The roll out process for each ClimateSafe Villages model is described on this page at the end of each model description. The roll out process for the ClimateSafe Villages is described on this page.

ClimateSafe Villages will work with those willing to help get ClimateSafe Village in Bellingham, Washington, running first. By studying other successful and unsuccessful intentional communities, we discovered that it's best to start from scratch if you're trying to build a model eco-community. Intentional communities that try to evolve in major ways once they are going and have established a culture do not have a high success record.)

    Details of farming methods

Our farming and garden specifications are still evolving as we research recent breakthrough in these areas.

Everything we do in this area will have a side effect, some of those will be negative. The key is to minimize the negative side effects and maximize the good. The carbon emissions from organic gardening and Permaculture are minimal compared to the carbon emissions of big agribusiness.

We have to move the human food supply away from big agribusiness, which will crash under the weight of extreme climate conditions. The key here is to minimize our carbon footprint by wise gardening and farming, which will be essential to our survival.

    About ClimateSafe Villages Legal Status

During the process in which ClimateSave Villages obtains its initial board of directors and gets its final letter of determination of nonprofit status from the United States Internal Revenue Service, ClimateSafe Villages is being overseen as a separate project wholly within the nonprofit organization Factnet Inc., and its subsidiary Job One for Humanity. However, once ClimateSafe Villages obtains this IRS final determination letter of nonprofit status, it will be legally separated from Factnet Job One for Humanity and Factnet. It will then operate as a distinct nonprofit corporation with its own board of directors. Factnet is a US tax-deductible 30-year-old, IRS-recognized 501c(3), not-for-profit organization.

    Sharing Information

Keep in mind, it is our organizing hope that all independent and ClimateSafe Villages communities will stay in close touch and be a part of our virtual ClimateSafe Villages community. It is important for the ClimateSafe Villages related experiments all over the world to share their successes and failures to expedite the growth process of every ClimateSafe village.

Click here for our ClimateSafe Village online guide table of contents.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the nonprofit ClimateSafe Villages (CSV) organization by clicking here. Every donation helps us expand and assist everyone coming to us for climate change resilience-building information and support.

Your tax-deductible donation also helps pay for all CSV models' ongoing research and development. This funding allows us to add more knowledge, tools, forms, contracts, and architectural net-zero and climate change-resilient building, home, and community designs for all worldwide ClimateSafe Villages, other eco-villages, and intentional communities. Very good thoughts except for one. Nuclear energy is not the near term solution to the climate change emergency. There are many, many problems with it so many that it is not worth listing them here, but the most important problem is clean or safe nuclear energy (if there ever will be such a thing) will arrive far too late to save a good portion of humanity from extinction. Please see this link for why this is true. https://www.joboneforhumanity.org/why_half_of_humanity_dies

The application processes for each of our four ClimateSafe Village models are found on this page in the section that describes each model. In addition, the ClimateSafe Villages Bellingham headquarters application process is found on this page. Our current ClimateSafe Village exit policies and process description are found below.

    Last Updated 5.23.23

    Introduction

There will be many different reasons that ClimateSafe Village members leave the community. Some individuals will have unexpected personal situations requiring them to leave the community for long periods or permanently to remedy those situations. The community will ask other individuals to leave because of serious infractions of our internal Social Contract or additional health safety or security rules.

This document provides an overview introduction to how communities will deal with this process. Each independent ecovillage will provide a complete listing of such guidelines as those guidelines are developed.

Remember that the ClimateSafe Village program addresses four different models: 1. urban, 2. rural, 3. hybrid, and 4. virtual. While some policies will be general and apply to all types, many specific policies will differ for each model and each ClimateSafe Village due to location or other factors. This document will present example policies for the general case and each ecovillage type. In the future, each independent ClimateSafe Village will adapt these policies as appropriate.

General Policies for all ClimateSafe Villages

There are many reasons a member might leave a ClimateSafe Village. These can be grouped into three categories by who initiated the move: 1. the individual, 2. the ClimateSafe Village, or 3. an external cause.

For a decision made by an individual, some examples are the individual:

    • decided to move to another community;
    • disagree with coordinators or other community matters;
    • found that the ecovillage culture wasn’t what they really wanted;
    • weren’t ready for the increased level of community involvement;
    • weren’t prepared for the increased level of personal responsibility for the ClimateSafe Village;
    • couldn’t find members with similar interests;
    • couldn’t adjust to the change in culture from the outside world;
    • couldn’t adapt to the educational focus of the ClimateSafe Villages.

    Some additional examples are:

    • others in their family decided to move;
    • failing personal health beyond the ecovillages ability to help;
    • financial problems;
    • employment issues

For a decision made by the ClimateSafe Village, some examples are:

    • the view of the ecovillage that any of the conditions in the list above were occurring, but the member wouldn’t or couldn’t acknowledge them;
    • the member did not understand or wouldn’t take action to understand the provisions of the Social Contract;
    • the member did not understand or wouldn’t take action to understand and obey the laws of the surrounding Climate Safer Ecovillage
    • The individual committed a serious crime inside the community, and law enforcement had to be notified to apprehend and remove them.

For a decision forced by external factors, some examples are:

    • The individual committed a crime and was removed from the ecovillage by law enforcement;
    • The individual died or was hospitalized for long-term care;
    • A job change forced a move to a different location.

    Policies for Urban ClimateSafe Villages

Some examples of a member leaving a ClimateSafe Village that would specifically apply to urban communities are:

    • A home eviction of the member forcing relocation. For an urban community, the community would most often not be involved in covering housing costs.

    Policies for Rural ClimateSafe Villages

Some examples of a member leaving an ecovillage that would specifically apply to a rural ecovillage are:

    • A medical condition arises that requires treatment not convenient in or near the ecovillage.
    • An unexpected breakdown of some utility that is vital to the ecovillage. An example would be the contamination of the water supply.

    Policies for Hybrid ClimateSafe Villages

A Hybrid ecovillage has the advantage of members living in an urban or suburban area but within commuting distance of a rural eco-community.

Some examples of a member leaving an ecovillage that would specifically apply to a hybrid ClimateSafe Village are:

    • The shutdown of ferry service between the two communities, with no plans for reopening. The hybrid ClimateSafe Village might switch to urban status in such a case.

    Policies for Virtual Communities

Some examples of a member leaving a ClimateSafe Village that would specifically apply to a virtual eco-community are:

    • Loss of internet connectivity
    • Change of work commitment that no longer provided time for ecovillage involvement.
    • The virtual community might be forced to block or ban that member because of severe, repeated violations of virtual online eco-community rules.

    Typical Exit Process methods

The purpose of conducting a formal exit process includes the following:

    • Seeking an eco-community benefit from the exiting person's skills, knowledge, and prior experience. If their experience is positive, they may keep ties with the eco-community.
    • Determining how the eco-community can support the exiting person's transition out of the eco-community in the most positive ways, fully recognizing their contributions.
    • By policy, the eco-community should always try to conduct the separation process on good terms. This may not always be possible. The case above for criminal activity is an example.
    • The eco-community should always try to understand the reasons the individual is leaving. A discussion should always be held by a coordinator who can make it clear to the member and who the member can accept as having no intent to blame the member for anything. Using a Personalized Democracy principle, in such a discussion, there are NO adversaries. Both people are joining a process to search for answers, to search for truths from which both parties can learn and benefit.
    • Provide as much time as possible before the member exit to have the discussion. Follow-on discussions may also be planned for future times after the member leaves.
    • Announce the member's departure to the community in the most positive of ways and arrange the next steps for anyone who will be taking over their responsibilities. Reward the leaving member, if appropriate, to conduct a special effort to transfer knowledge. This might include, for example, summaries of their projects and deadlines.
    • Allow time for the departing member to train their replacement or other members who will assume their efforts. If there's not enough time to do this in person, request instructions in writing.
    • If the departing member will leave a community-owned home or a privately owned home with no person remaining that has lived in the house, ask them to help prepare a history of problems with the home and leave it in a clean and suitable condition so that other community members could move in soon after they leave
    • Document the departure with a letter of resignation or termination.
    • In some cases, provide a going away event where community members can thank them for their contributions and wish them the best in whatever happens next in their lives.

Dealing with real estate that you have purchased within the ClimateSafe Village when exiting the ClimateSafe Village

Some individuals will want to start building their own net-zero climate-safe homes once we have purchased the eco-community land and completed an architectural design for the eco-community layout. We will allow this to expedite community construction while we are still fundraising for these communities. Still, these private home builders must acknowledge in their land lease contracts that these homes may never be sold or rented to non-members.

They will also guarantee these privately built homes can not be used as collateral and a sizable asset on any loan outside of existing community members. Additionally, they guarantee they will keep up with all appropriate local and state taxes so that the government cannot seize the home.

It is essential to keep the original and any subsequent community land purchases intact and contiguous over time and not subject to being broken up by leaving members or other outside situations. Only this way will the community maintain its wholeness and integrity and fulfill its purposes. A community-managed nonprofit organization will probably make all land purchases, and the lands will be put into a land trust where it is specified that this land can only be used for the community mission-aligned purposes of sustainability, conservation, and education.

We will soon be developing specific real estate contracts that deal with anyone who has built a home on community-owned land and is leaving the community for one reason or another. These contracts generally state that the community will buy back the house at a fair market value, excluding the land and unique neighborhood values the ecovillage collectively already owns.

The contract will specify that the community will make monthly payments on the home based on a market rate 20 or 30-year mortgage repayment plan.

Any privately built home on ecovillage land will be based on a 99-year lease contract. The land lease contract will include all the restrictions on using and resale of that home. All land lease contracts will contain provisions about maintaining the privately built home to community standards and fair and reasonable procedures for the community to take emergency possession of the home if the member fails to pay local, state, or federal taxes on the property and the house becomes subject to outside or governmental seizure. The land lease contract will contain provisions about paying the monthly community homeowners fees set by each community to cover such things as snow removal and upgrades and repairs to community infrastructure, buildings, and local ecovillage taxes, etc.

Privately built homes will always have to be sold back to the community under the terms of the lease agreement to maintain the contiguous land integrity of the ecovillage. However, privately built homes on eco-community land may be rented out to potential and provisionally approved members who want to live in the community on provisional status or for short-term retreats for permanent eco-community members from other areas.

We anticipate a steady demand for retreats or provisional member housing so that community members may temporarily leave their privately built homes and still have an income source.

These 99-year leases will allow you to pass the homes to your heirs. Still, these homes can only be occupied by accepted or provisional eco-community members.

If the individual has privately purchased some other large piece of community equipment ( a snowplow, community transport tractor, etc.) valued over $3,000, which has contributed to the community use, and now seeks some form of compensation for it, on their exit, the community will repurchase this equipment at fair market value for its current used condition and make monthly payments which are deemed affordable to the eco-community for this unexpected repurchase.

    Timeshare Private Built Homes

There is a possibility when we start various fundraising programs that, we might allow members to build private homes and do that with others as timeshares. In these timeshare homes, the funders could spend specific times of the year with us or rent their space to other members only. If we allow this, we will create a contract similar to our 99-year land lease contract. All timeshare homes will also be responsible for paying a monthly ecovillage membership expenses fee as described elsewhere.

    Timeshare Private Homes Exit Policy

In addition to the private owners disposing of timeshare property through their channels exclusively to another member of our eco-community, there are three options to exit the timeshare or curtail monthly timeshare obligations:

    1. Gift Deed Over your property to the ClimateSafe Village

    2. Rent your property in the ecovillage’s retreat and provisional member housing program.

Gift Deed Over your property to the ClimateSafe Village

The Property Coordinating Group of the ecovillage must first accept the gift of this property.

    a. The owner must be current on all assessments, fees, fines, taxes, or any other charges associated with the account of the property to be gifted.

    b. The owner pays all title transfer fees unless the ecovillage is willing to pay this.

Rent your home property to the ClimateSafe Village for their retreat or provisional member rental program

The Property Coordinating Group of the ClimateSafe Village must first accept responsibility for the rental of this property, and both parties sign a contract that spells out all the terms and conditions.

    1. Owner properties for rent will be promoted on the ClimateSafe Village’s members-only website.

    2. The ClimateSafe Village will provide administrative assistance in the rental process.

    3. The Owner, in collaboration with the ClimateSafe Village, will set the rental price and the minimum days of a rental, if renting for less than a full week is offered as an option. The ClimateSafe Village will have the final determination of a fair market retail prices that includes both the home value and the value of the community lands and services. The ClimateSafe Village and the owner will come to a mutually agreed split of the rental fees where the ClimateSafe Village's percentage will also never be lower than 30 percent, which would cover the minimum for administering the rental.

    4. The owner must be current on all assessments, fees, fines, taxes, or any other charges on the property to be rented.

All other rental terms will be in the owner's ecovillage rental contract.

Additional exit information relevant to living within the reality of the external society: criminal acts

While the ClimateSafe Village program attempts to adopt practices that eliminate the problems of the outside world, unless the program grows to the scale of a nation, it will always be subject to the laws of the surrounding society. While the ClimateSafe Village will do as much as possible to counter adverse conditions outside of the ecovillage, complete protection is impossible. So an actual condition of the ClimateSafe Village Social Contract is that all members must comply with external law.

A standard of practice that generally occurs is that the ClimateSafe Village will be asked to allow external law enforcement free access to patrol the ClimateSafe Village. So the condition that members must comply with external law implies that members support this practice and use ClimateSafe Village methods to make it a positive practice.

    The issue of crime

The condition of external law also implies ClimateSafe Village’s response to another factor: crime. A basic tenet of the Social Contract is the adoption of Personalized Democracy. Because of its structure, almost all conditions that lead to “crime” in current society will no longer be present. This means the ClimateSafe Village itself is not expected to require or have a significant “police” component. However, if an ecovillage member does something seriously harmful, it will probably also constitute a crime by the standards of the surrounding eco-community. In such a case, an appointed ClimateSafe Village coordinator would be expected to notify the appropriate external law enforcement for action.

The issue of breeches of the Social Contract

Concerning breeches of the Social Contract that do not break external law, Personalized Democracy directly addresses this in its structure. That is, PD eliminates ALL practices of “negative” reinforcement to address social behaviors. For example, the concept of “jails” and “prisons” no longer exists. (This, by the way, is a practice well-known to modern society in Scandinavian countries.)

Instead, the basis for addressing social behavior is through “positive” reinforcement. Principle 4 of Personalized Democracy states: “Rewards in proportion to social contribution.” Through its collective productivity and surpluses, the ClimateSafe Village will always seek to provide a “livable” level of “basic life support.” Most members will enjoy a lifestyle well above that level. Their contribution to the ecovillage society will determine that level. If a member breaches the Social Contract, support for that higher level would be reduced, and social privileges would be withdrawn.

  • Is the new Personal Democracy like a democratic assembly?

    A:
The phrase “democratic assemblies” easily becomes confusing when related to Personalized Democracy (PD).
In general, Personalized Democracy is focused more around individuals than groups. Asking Google to define it:
A democratic, or “popular" assembly is typically a gathering that addresses what participants feel are the effects of a democratic deficit in representative democratic systems. Sometimes assemblies are created to form an alternative power structure.
The KEY factor behind the assembly is that they expect to take “votes” on issues. The “winner” is determined by some form of “majority”.
In criticisms of “democracy”, the idea of a “majority vote”, of any kind, is that it creates a “tyranny of the majority”. The example often given to show an extremely negative case of this is a “Lynch mob”.
In Personalized Democracy, there is never any voting. What would be done in a PD “democratic assembly” is:
    • Issues are raised
    • Individuals get to speak about the issues
    • When it comes time for “action”, EVERY person involved in the assembly submits their opinion or viewpoint. This is where computers win the day. The result is more like a survey.
    • The organizers then “summarize” the responses.
    • THEN, what makes PD different, “no single decision is made. The organizers must then take the survey back to a “systems group” that tries to determine what kind of actions can be taken so that “ALL” of the opinions and viewpoints are “positively addressed for action” within the constraints of “principles”. Some examples of the principles are: sustainability, equity, morals, financial resources, skills availability, etc.
